LOCAL FAVOURITES SET SIGHTS ON VICTORY IN THE GERMAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP AT HOCKENHEIM

Former champions, race winners and works drivers: A strong contingent of local drivers have set their sights high for their home event in the German GT Championship. The highlight in Hockenheim (22nd to 24th October) will decide who heads to the finale with title aspirations still intact, and the local favourites will be hungry to challenge at the front of the field at the penultimate race weekend of the season. Among those looking forward to their home races are former F1 driver Markus Winkelhock (41/Zdiměřice), double champion Sebastian Asch (35/Ammerbuch) and Audi Sport driver Dennis Marschall (25/Eggenstein), as well as the Corvette team of Callaway Competition and Audi team Rutronik Racing. Fans are welcome in the grandstands and the open, fan-friendly paddock in Hockenheim.

WIN FOR AUDI DUO NIEDERHAUSER AND VAN DER LINDE TAKES THEM TO THE TOP OF THE ADAC GT MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Mission Title Defence is ramping up. After finishing as runners-up on Saturday, the Audi R8 LMS pairing of Patric Niederhauser (28, CH) and Kelvin van der Linde (24, ZA, both Rutronik Racing) chalked up their first victory of the season in Race 2 at Hockenheim. Last year’s champions now lead the drivers’ standings for the first time this year. They were followed across the finish line by two other Audis: Max Hofer (21, AUT) and Christopher Haase (32, GER, both Montaplast by Land Motorsport) took second place ahead of Rolf Ineichen (42, CH) and Mirko Bortolotti (30, ITA, both Team WRT) in third. “A mega race and a mega weekend,” was winner Kelvin van der Linde’s happy verdict. “Hockenheim is really starting to become one of my favourite circuits. In the past three years I have won each of the Sunday races here – once with my brother Sheldon and now twice with Patric.”

ADAC GT MASTERS VICTORY NUMBER TWO FOR PORSCHE DUO ENGLEHART AND AMMERMULLER

Christian Engelhart (33, GER) and Michael Ammermüller (34, GER, both SSR Performance) put in a strong performance to not only secure victory in Saturday’s ADAC GT Masters race at Hockenheim but also take over at the top of the standings. Last year’s champions Patric Niederhauser (28, CH) and Kelvin van der Linde (24, ZA, both Rutronik Racing) finished second in the best of the Audi R8 LMS contingent, while Lamborghini drivers Tim Zimmermann (24, GER) and Steijn Schothorst (25, NL, both GRT Grasser Racing Team) took third place. “We had a great car again today,” said winner Michael Ammermüller with evident satisfaction. “The team has done a fantastic job again. Christian laid the foundation for our success with his overtaking manoeuvre in the battle for the lead.”

ADAC GT MASTERS AT HOCKENHEIM: PLENTY OF EXCITEMENT WITH 33 GT3 RACING CARS

With thrilling battles, good overtaking opportunities and very close gaps between cars, the ADAC GT Masters is set to line up for the third race meeting of the year this weekend (18th-20th September) at the Hockenheimring, a circuit that is well-known for producing plenty of exciting race action. 32 super sports cars will be hunting down championship leaders Luca Stolz (25, GER) and Maro Engel (34, Monte Carlo, both Toksport WRT) in the Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo.

BORTOLOTTI AND ENGLEHART KEEP ADAC GT MASTERS TITLE FIGHT ON THE BOIL WITH THIRD VICTORY

The Lamborghini pairing of Mirko Bortolotti (29, ITA) and Christian Engelhart (32, GER, both Orange1 by GRT Grasser) secured a third win of the season in Saturday’s ADAC GT Masters race at Hockenheim (Baden-Württemberg) to keep themselves in contention for the title in the Super Sports Car League. Second place went to Indy Dontje (26, NL) and Maximilian Götz (33, GER, both Mann-Filter Team HTP) in a Mercedes-AMG. Finishing third were pole-sitter Dennis Marschall (23, GER) and Carrie Schreiner (21, GER, both HCB-Rutronik Racing) in the best of the large Audi contingent. “A perfect day,” said Bortolotti. “I am very happy with our third win of the season. This success was extremely important to us.”

Ollie Wilkinson underlined just how far he’s come in his so-far short career in the second round International GT Open battles at Hockenheim, taking his maiden Pro class and outright podium on his debut weekend classified as a Silver driver. Third place in race two followed an impressive first top-five class finish on Saturday, capping his 23rd birthday celebrations in Germany.
