Will Owen and United Autosports have arrived in Italy for the second round of the 2018 European Le Mans Series, the 4 Hours of Monza. Finishing 9th at Paul Ricard was a great start to the season, but Owen and his teammates Hugo de Sadeleer and Wayne Boyd are ready to fight for the podium this weekend.
Several full-time IMSA drivers will not be taking it easy this weekend as there are no scheduled races after last week’s event at Mid-Ohio. The group will be at storied racetracks around the world including five that won races at last weekend’s Acura Sports Car Challenge.

Porsche will be represented by a large fleet of vehicles at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring: 43 Porsche 911 and Porsche Cayman race cars will tackle Germany’s biggest automobile race on the 24.38-kilometre combination of the Grand Prix circuit and the Nürburgring-Nordschleife on 12-13 May.
The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing DPi-V.R finished the Mid-Ohio Grand Prix eighth on Sunday as Eric Curran and Felipe Nasr teamed for the fourth round of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The race marked the return of IMSA to the technical track set in rural Ohio with a long history of sports car racing through the decades.
Looking to make a successful defense of the team’s 2013 Mid-Ohio race victory, the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R finished fourth with drivers Filipe Albuquerque (PRT) and João Barbosa (PRT) coming home just one spot shy of the podium despite excellent teamwork all weekend long.
Clinching the second win of the season at Mid-Ohio, Porsche grabbed the lead of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. In a nail-biting finale, Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) and Earl Bamber (New Zealand) snatched victory with the 510 hp Porsche 911 RSR on Sunday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and celebrated their first win in the USA as teammates at the most gripping race of the season by now.
The No. 25 BMW M8 GTE of Connor De Phillippi and Alexander Sims raced to a well-deserved second place finish in today’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, taking the checkered flag 1.673 seconds behind the race winning No. 912 Porsche. The result was the team’s second runner-up finish of the season and the 70th podium finish since 2009. After starting from the pole, John Edwards and Jesse Krohn had an unfortunate race to finish seventh in the No. 24 M8 GTE.
Despite strong strategies and judicious driving by all four drivers, the podium remained just out of reach for Ford Chip Ganassi Racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the final stop for the team before the Le Mans 24.

Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia earned a podium finish Sunday in Corvette Racing’s return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio. The Super Season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) kicks off this weekend. The championship will last more than a year, concluding in about 13 months with the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours. Next year’s proceedings will open with a race at Sebring, followed by the second race at Spa-Francorchamps in May and the Le Mans 24 Hours in June.
The Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) on Saturday are the season opener in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) for the new BMW M8 GTE.
