The drivers of the DTM expect a changeable weekend. A lot of things turned out in the predictions of the drivers at the press conference on Friday around the Nürburgring ever since unpredictable weather. One of the reasons for this is the charm of the route.

“I am always happy to be here. The circuit has a great history. The spectators are true motorsport fans. I won a DTM race here two years ago and I was also successful in other classes on the north loop. Due to the changing weather, it will be a difficult weekend. Sometimes dry, sometimes wet, plus the tire selection. It will be hard and interesting. I want to get a maximum of points, “says Maxime Martin. The BMW driver is currently fifth with 102 points in the overall rating. The Belgian is known for his strong driving style on wet terrain. In 2013, Martin impressed the spectators at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring when he caught up with 20 seconds per lap in the last stint on the leaders and still drove from second place to second place.

Martin won a DTM race in the Eifel in 2015. With Gary Paffett, the last success is a bit longer. Nevertheless, the Mercedes-AMG-Pilot still remembers very well and also the race in the following year. “It was sunny and hot in 2004. This was unusual. In 2005, I was on the pole position and I would have won the race. But after the second pit stop I drove at the exit over the white line and got a transit, so I was only third. This error happened to me the first and last time. The weather here is unpredictable. Our car is very good in the rain. It is definitely always entertaining to race here. “Paffett is ninth in the total tableau with 75 points.

René Rast is much better in the race. As a whole, the Audi driver is only missing 14 points on the Ekström medal. And so slowly he also believes in his chance. “Certainly a little bit. With every weekend there will be fewer title candidates. At the moment there are still eight to ten candidates. I belong to it, that’s nice. There are only three weekends and six races. ”

At the last race weekend on the Dutch North Sea coast, Rast had remained far below its own expectations with only two points. That should change now. The rookie counted on varied racing events. “Zandvoort was not my best weekend, which cost me a lot of points. The two races at the Nürburgring will be partly chaotic due to the weather. The weather can change within five minutes. In general, I like the rain. I do not have a bad feeling. Today it is wet, because we can already gather some experience in outdoor training. If it is dry on Sunday, the cards are shuffled again.
