BMW TEAM RLL FINISHES SEVENTH AND EIGHTH AT VIR

BMW Team RLL had a difficult race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway (USA), ultimately finishing seventh and eighth in the GTLM class. Having finished first and third there last season, the team could not equal the pace of the other GTLM competitors this time. The #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 finished 11th in the GTD class after an early race incident.

John Edwards and Jesse Krohn, driving the No. 24 M8 GTE, finished in eight place unable to improve on their qualifying position. The 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season resumes following the traditional Le Mans break with BMW Team RLL ready to compete in this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours Of The Glen, at Watkins Glen International. The 2019 Rolex 24 At Daytona winners have been unable to reach the GTLM class podium in subsequent rounds at Sebring, Long Beach and Mid-Ohio, but feel confident of a stronger performance at The Glen following a Balance of Performance change that will see a nominal power increase for the BMW M8 GTE.

After 330 laps, car #24 crossed the line fourth in the GTLM class. The second BMW M8 GTE finished seventh.

BMW TEAM RLL READY FOR VIR AFTER NEAR MISS AT ROAD AMERICA

While the second half of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship can be exhausting with a race seemingly every other weekend, BMW Team RLL is looking forward to getting back to it at the Aug. 19 Michelin GT Challenge at VIR following a near miss of the podium’s top spot at Road America. Leading for almost the entire last hour of the race, the No. 25 M8 GTE of Connor De Phillippi was stalled by a fuel system issue within minutes of the checkered flag.

FOUR SERIES – FOUR PIT STOPS: PACE AND PERFECTION IN ALL ASPECTS

Perfect pit stops are important for success in every race series. While it will be primarily about the speed of changing tyres at next weekend’s DTM races in Brands Hatch (GBR), in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), it’s the right timing and coordination of the different procedures that is crucial. In addition to changing the tyres, the car is refuelled and a new driver enters the cockpit. We provide an overview of the pit stops in the various race series in which BMW M Motorsport is involved and compare the stops at the upcoming DTM races with those in the FIA WEC, the IMSA series and at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours.

BMW TEAM RLL LOOKING FORWARD TO ROAD AMERICA

The annual trip to Road America for the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Showcase is always a highlight for BMW Team RLL. The classic Wisconsin circuit was the site of BMW Team RLL’s very first pole position and victory in 2009 behind the efforts of Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand in their BMW M3 GT. Over the past eight seasons the team has scored an additional two poles and seven podium finishes at the historic motor circuit, including two more wins in 2010 and 2012.

TWO RACES IN SEVEN DAYS: THE GREATEST LOGISTICAL CHALLENGE OF THE SEASON FOR BMW TEAM RLL

There are just five days between the six-hour race at Watkins Glen (USA) and the start of the race weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park near Bowmanville (CAN). Although the two IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship circuits are only around 300 miles apart, this is one of the most challenging weeks for the BMW Team RLL. This is particularly true for the logistics team, which delivers an outstanding performance between the two events.

The result was the team’s second runner-up finish of the season and the 70th podium finish since 2009. After starting from the pole, John Edwards and Jesse Krohn had an unfortunate race to finish seventh in the No. 24 M8 GTE.
