Ben Hingeley aims to build upon his maiden BRDC British F3 race win at Rockingham with more of the same at Snetterton this weekend (27/28 May), a circuit at which he excels.

The 19-year-old is in his second season of British F3, and Snetterton is where his debut season began to take off. “Last year was a really strong learning curve for me,” he said. “We made great strides, and by the end of the year we were pretty much on the pace. We had a good one at Snetterton; I got a third and fastest lap in one of the races, so that was my first podium in British F3.”

“We’ve had a good consistent start and Rockingham was really good, so we’ve been consistently within the top five or six all the time. A good three races at Snetterton will just keep us there, it’s a long year and the prime example is Enaam Ahmed, he had such a strong start to the year and two small errors for whatever reason has brought him straight back into it.”

Ben took full advantage of Ahmed’s troubles, taking his first F3 win at Rockingham in superb style. “I think it was more the way we took the win at Rockingham, when the safety car came out and actually overtaking for the lead made that a little bit more special,” he said.

“I had a good idea in my head before the move happened what I wanted to do. I was always going to attack Cameron [Das], but I was kind of forced into it by James [Pull] behind me, because as we came round the banking he went to the outside. I think that just took Cameron’s eye off it a little bit, and just as he jinked right, I managed to go left and get down the inside of both of them, so that was a really proud moment. I was glad to get it out of the way and now we can push trying to get some more.”

Snetterton couldn’t have come sooner for Ben, and he’s full of confidence for this weekend. “Funnily enough, it’s the furthest track away from me, but it’s probably the track I’ve done the most laps round for one reason or another,” he said. “Every time I’ve gone there we’ve been quick, even the first round last year I had a good start and Snetterton’s usually gone very well for me pace-wise.”

The next rounds of the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 season will take place at Snetterton this weekend (27/28 May) at Snetterton in Norfolk.
