CORVETTE TRIUMPH IN SUNDAY’S RACE IN THE GERMAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE RED BULL RING

Milestone success for Corvette in a spectacular race that went down to the wire at the Red Bull Ring: Jeffrey Schmidt (27/CH) and Marvin Kirchhöfer (27/Lucerne, both Callaway Competition) not only claimed their first win of the season in a thrilling Sunday race in the German GT Championship, but also racked up triumph number ten for the US sports car manufacturer at the Austrian circuit. Second place, less than one second back, went to pole-sitters Kim-Luis Schramm (23/Meuspath) and Dennis Marschall (24/Eggenstein, both Rutronik Racing by Tece) in the best-placed Audi. BMW drivers Nick Yelloly (29/GB) and Jesse Krohn (30/FIN, both Schubert Motorsport) finished third to ensure a good mix of manufacturers on the podium. “A great day. We had very quick guys behind us, so we could not afford to make any mistakes,” said a delighted Schmidt. “We had to give it everything.”

AMMERMULLER/JAMINET WINS ADAC GT MASTERS RED BULL RING SPECTACLE

Excitement from start to finish: Saturday’s race in the German GT Championship at the Red Bull Ring was characterised by many overtaking manoeuvres and spectacular battles. In the end, it was defending champion Michael Ammermüller (35/Rotthalmünster) and Mathieu Jaminet (26/F, both SSR Performance) who crossed the finish line first to take their second victory of the season. Second place went to Mirko Bortolotti (31/I) and Albert Costa Balboa (31/E, GRT Grasser Racing Team), with Corvette drivers Jeffrey Schmidt (27/CH) and Marvin Kirchhöfer (27/Lucerne, both Callaway Competition) rounding off the podium in third place. “A really incredible race,” said a delighted Ammermüller. “To claim win number two on the second weekend of the season is really super.”

ASTEMO NSX-GT WINS SUPER GT BY A CLOSE MARGIN AT FUJI

The Takanokono Hotel FUJI GT 500km RACE, round 2 of the 2021 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series was held on the afternoon of May 4th (Tues., holiday) at Fuji Speedway (one lap 4,563m × 110 laps). In the GT500 class, the No. 17 Astemo NSX-GT (Koudai Tsukakoshi/Bertrand Baguette) took the lead with a well-timed pit stop and held off the pursuers in the second half to take the win. In the GT300 class, the No. 60 SYNTIUM LMcorsa GR Supra GT (Hiroki Yoshimoto/Shunsuke Kohno) took the win.

ENEOS X PRIME GR SUPRA VICTORIOUS AT OKAYAMA

The “Takanoko Hotel Okayama GT 300 Km RACE,” opening round of the 2021 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, took place at the Okayama International Circuit (one lap 3,703 m x 82 laps) on April 11. Race Sunday was blessed with fine spring weather, and despite with-corona restrictions like social distancing, the fans were back to enjoy the first race here at Okayama in two years.

RAYBRIG NSX-GT IN DRAMATIC LAST LAP SUPER GT VICTORY

The Takanokono Hotel FUJI GT 300km RACE, Round 8 of the 2020 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series, was held at the Fuji Speedway (one lap 4,563m×65 laps) in Shizuoka Prefecture on November 29 (Sun). In the GT500 class, the No. 100 RAYBRIG NSX-GT (Naoki Yamamoto/Tadasuke Makino) won the race, and in doing so won the series Drivers and Team titles as well. In the GT300 class, the SAITAMATOYOPET GB GR Supra GT (Hiroki Yoshida/Kohta Kawaai) won the race from pole position, while the class title went to the No. 56 Realize Nissan Automobile Technical College GT-R (Kiyoto Fujinami/Joao Paulo de Oliveira).

ARTA NSX-GT RUNS AWAY TO SUPER GT VICTORY AT MOTEGI

The FUJIMAKI GROUP MOTEGI GT 300km RACE, Round 7 of the 2020 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series was held on the afternoon of November 8 (Sun) at Twin Rings Motegi (one lap 4,801m x 63 laps) in Tochigi Pref. In the GT500 class, the No. 8 ARTA NSX-GT (Tomoki Nojiri/Nirei Fukuzumi) took the lead from a 2nd-position start to run away to its first win of the season. In the GT300 class, the No. 56 Realize Nissan Automobile Technical College GT-R (Kiyoto Fujinami/Joao Paulo de Oliveira) took its second win of the season.

24 HOURS OF SPA ROUNDUP

Last weekend, the Total 24 Hours of Spa staged its 20th edition since GT rules were introduced in 2001. We had to wait a little longer than anticipated to celebrate the milestone, while the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic altered the character of this year’s event. 

KANGAS AND NEMOTO CLAIM FIRST WIN IN SHORTENED LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO EUROPE RACE 2 AT SPA

Yuki Nemoto and Olli Kangas (#6 VS Racing) claimed their first Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe victory in the second race at Spa-Francorchamps, a race red-flagged following a crash for Raul Guzman (#41 Target Racing) in the closing stages. Nemoto and Kangas profited from an earlier safety car intervention, to retrieve the #29 Konrad Motorsport car of Emir Keserovic which crashed at Les Combes, to make their mandatory pit-stop just as the pit window opened and a full lap before the leading runners. That enabled the duo to leapfrog the second VS Racing Lamborghini Huracán ST Evo of pole-sitters Karol Basz and Andrzej Lewandowski after the stops to claim the victory.

THIRD WIN GIVES GILARDONI THE LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AT SPA

 Oregon Team’s Kevin Gilardoni recorded his third straight Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe victory to move into the lead of the points standings after an action-packed opening race at Spa-Francorchamps. The Belgian circuit offered up thrills and spills throughout the 50-minute encounter, with the pole-sitting #7 GSM Racing Lamborghini Huracán of Jonathan Cecotto – shared with Patrick Liddy – led the first stint with relative ease.

BMW DUO KLINGMANN & JOHANSSON WIN 200th ADAC GT MASTERS RACE

Erik Johansson (24, SWE) and Jens Klingmann (30, GER, both MRS GT-Racing) have gone down in ADAC GT Masters history as winners of the 200th race. Victory for the BMW duo on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring means that the Super Sports Car League has now seen nine different winners in the ten outings of the current campaign. Runners-up were Luca Stolz (25, GER) and Maro Engel (35, Monte Carlo, both Toksport WRT) in a Mercedes-AMG, with third place going to Lamborghini works drivers Franck Perera (36, FRA) and Albert Costa Balboa (30, ESP, both GRT Grasser Racing Team). “Amazing!” was race winner Jens Klingmann’s verdict at the finish. “To have won the 200th race of the ADAC GT Masters is really something very special. After this morning’s quali, I certainly wasn’t expecting the win – I would have been satisfied with just a podium.”

HENRIC SKOOG AND NICK YELLOLY IN FIRST WIN OF THE ADAC GT MASTERS SEASON FOR BMW

There have now been eight different winners in nine races. Henric Skoog (24, SWE) and Nick Yelloly (29, GBR, both Schubert Motorsport) driving a BMW M6 GT3 cruised to victory in Saturday’s ADAC GT Masters race at the Red Bull Ring. Their triumph in the 199th race of the Super Sports Car League was the first for BMW this season. Porsche drivers Robert Renauer (35, GER) and Sven Müller (28, GER, both Precote Herberth Motorsport) finished second on the Austrian Formula 1 circuit, with third place going to Erik Johansson (24, SWE) and Jens Klingmann (30, GER, both MRS GT-Racing) in another BMW. “After our somewhat faltering start to the season, this success is an important one for the whole team,” said winner Henric Skoog at the finish. “The guys were incredibly happy. We’re now looking to excel again tomorrow.” Sunday’s race in Austria will be the 200th in the history of the ADAC GT Masters.
