ERA MOTORSPORT ARRIVES IN MONZA TO CONTINUE ELMS CAMPAIGN

The second half of the 2021 European Le Mans Series begins this week in northern Italy, and the No. 17 IDEC SPORT / Era Motorsport LMP2 car will be one of 44 entries competing in the 4 Hours of Monza. Following a strong performance but early retirement at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship last month, the trio of Kyle Tilley, Dwight Merriman, and Ryan Dalziel hope the progress made on their racing machinery in the states will benefit the European race program as well.

ROVERA READY FOR DOUBLE ELMS/FIA WEC HOME ROUND IN MONZA

Time for the long-awaited double home appointment at Monza for Alessio Rovera on the #88 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE. After several national victories, the 26-year-old Italian driver from Varese, some 50 km from Monza, will return racing on the Autodromo Nazionale to face this year’s challenges of the international endurance events promoted by ACO / Le Mans and FIA. On July 9-11 the 4 Hours of Monza will be the round of the 2021 European Le Mans Series, while the following weekend (July 18) will host the 6 Hours as third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

1AIM VILLORBA CORSE RESUMES IN ELMS IN THE 4 HOURS OF LE CASTELLET

Team 1AIM Villorba Corse racing programs resume on June 4-6 at the 4 Hours of Le Castellet, which is the third round of 2021 European Le Mans Series. The Italian team will be back in action at the Paul Ricard circuit, France, with their Ligier JS P320 powered by Nissan and racing drivers Alessandro Bressan, Damiano Fioravanti and Andreas Laskaratos. After being hit by another prototype and forced to an early retirement in the previous race, held at the Red Bull Ring last month, the squad led by Raimondo Amadio is immediately aiming to fight back, showing a competitive pace and scoring championship points as the team did in Barcelona at the beginning of the season.

COMPETITIVE WEEKEND FOR COOL RACING AT MONZA

Antonin Borga was met with challenging conditions at the start of the 4 Hours of Monza, as the track was still damp from overnight rain. Several cars struggled on the slippery asphalt, but the Swiss racer kept it clean and made up two positions from his fourth-place grid spot at the start. He ran two smooth stints, but was rear-ended by an LMP3 car into the first chicane which spun the car around. He handed the #37 Oreca 07 to his countryman Alex Coigny, who also drove well on the drying track.

KESSEL RACING WINS AT MONZA AND AIMS FOR ELMS TITLE

The Ferrari 488 GTE no. 74 of Kessel Racing crewed by Michael Broniszewski, David Perel and Nicola Cadei won the 4 Hours of Monza, the fourth round of the European Le Mans Series, to gain ground in the overall standings. This excellent result was complemented by a superb third place for the Ferrari of Iron Lynx driven by Manuela Gostner, Michelle Gatting and Rahel Frey, which took a second consecutive podium after the one at the Paul Ricard.

HANSON AIMING FOR HISTORIC “TRIPLE CROWN” IN SPORTCAR RACING

Having become the youngest driver ever to win a FIA World Endurance Championship title and the youngest British driver to win the LMP2 category in the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours, Britain’s Phil Hanson now targets re-writing the motorsport history books once again. The 21-year-old United Autosports driver is aiming to become the first driver ever to win a WEC title, Le Mans and the outright European Le Mans Series title in the same year.

COOL RACING SHOWS BLISTERING PACE ACROSS 4 HOURS OF LE CASTELLET WEEKEND

In the 4 Hours of Le Castellet, COOL Racing got its 2020 European Le Mans Series campaign underway with a fourth-place finish, bringing home a strong haul of points. After French driver Nicolas Lapierre put the #37 Oreca 07 sixth on the grid, he and team-mates Antonin Borga and Alexandre Coigny ran a smooth and error-free race to secure its third top-five finish since making its debut in the LMP2 class last year. Coigny also picked up a trophy for the top bronze-graded driver. The Swiss team will now look ahead to Spa-Francorchamps on 9 August.
