ATTEMPTO RACING JOINS THE DTM WITH MARIUS ZUG

A DTM contract for his birthday: young talent Marius Zug signed the contract for his debut in DTM on 6 February, his 19th birthday. The driver from Pfaffenhofen will be participating in the season’s eight race weekends in the long-standing series with an Audi R8 LMS evo II run by Attempto Racing from Hanover. The season opener will be held at Portimão in Portugal from 29 April-1 May.

AUDI SPORT CUSTOMER RACING WITH 18 DRIVERS FOR 2022

Audi Sport customer racing enters the 2022 motorsport season with a mix of established drivers and promising young drivers – including three new signings. The driver squad comprises a total of 16 talents. They are joined by three-time DTM champion René Rast and former DTM vice-champion Nico Müller. The two drivers will strengthen the brand’s customer racing program this year again.

ABT SPORTSLINE BRINGS TOP TALENT RICARDO FELLER INTO THE DTM

ABT Sportsline will again be running three Audis in the DTM races. Next to three-time DTM champion René Rast and Kelvin van der Linde, third in the championship last year, the successful outfit from Kempten has signed 21-year-old Ricardo Feller for the third seat. The Swiss, who already competed in races with a GT3 race car at the age of 16, is considered as a great talent and a driver with huge potential.

ABT SPORTSLINE CONFIRMS RENE RAST AS A DRIVER FOR THE 2022 DTM SEASON

Speculations were going on for a long time, but now, the ABT Sportsline team from Kempten has officially confirmed its second driver for the 2022 DTM season. It is three-time DTM champion René Rast, who already won the drivers‘ title in the long-standing series in 2017, 2019 and 2020. The 35-year-old will be driving the second Audi-Cockpit of the team with ABT CEO and team principal Thomas Biermaier at the helm, becoming the new teammate to South-African Kelvin van der Linde, who already raced for ABT Sportsline in DTM last year and finished the drivers championship in third place.

PORSCHE ANNOUNCES 2022 MOTORSPORT PLANS

Porsche is set to start the 2022 motorsport season with ambitious goals and extensive programmes. The prime focus will be on the two works entries in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship. The expansion of customer sport activities and intensive preparation for the new LMDh programme have now been added to the schedule of activities. “Motorsports have always had a special role to play in Porsche’s corporate strategy, and for more than 70 years now we have used the racing stage as the testing grounds for our latest technologies. We face great challenges today – in both sporting and organisational terms. We are determined to play an active role in shaping the future, while ensuring we retain our motorsports DNA,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG at the digital Porsche Night of Champions.

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR MERCEDES-AMG MOTORSPORT

With victories and titles in the most significant race series, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport has continued the success story of its customer sports programme in the year 2021. From the range of over 30 championship titles that could be won in the course of the season, still challenging because of the Covid-pandemic, the DTM drivers’ title for Maximilian Götz (GER) stands out. Moreover, Mercedes-AMG underlined its aspiration as a globally successful performance and sports car brand by winning the manufacturers’ titles in DTM and GT World Challenge. Across the globe, the Customer Racing Teams competed in 474 races and were able to celebrate 93 race wins and 229 class wins in the process. In total, 573 podium results for drivers with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the Mercedes-AMG GT4 were achieved.

GRT GRASSER RACING FORGE AUSTRIAN ALLIANCE IN THE DTM

GRT’s adventure in the top class of GT3 sport, the DTM, is beginning to take shape, and the Austrians will call on the services of 31-year-old Tyrolean driver, Clemens Schmid, again in 2022. After two years at Grasser Racing, he will be a member of the crew moving from the ADAC GT Masters to the legendary DTM where he will drive the #16 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO. His name is the first of four to be signed by GRT as drivers for next year.

SECOND PLACE DTM FINISH FOR LAWSON AT HOCKENHEIM

With a consistent yet determined showing, Liam Lawson (Red Bull AF Corse) claimed an excellent runner-up spot in the second race of the DTM weekend at Hockenheim to edge further away at the head of the overall standings. The driver now holds a 14-point advantage over the nearest second-placed rival in the countdown to the final round of the season. Alex Albon in the other Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 (AlphaTauri AF Corse) posted sixth place.

MERCEDES-AMG MOTORSPORT SCORES FIVE PODIUM RESULTS AT THE WEEKEND

At the start of the second half of the DTM season at the Red Bull Ring, Mercedes-AMG further extended his lead in the manufacturers’ standings. With three podium results by Maximilian Götz and Philip Ellis a total of eighth further top ten results, Mercedes-AMG was the most successful manufacturer at the Austrian Grand Prix circuit. The performance and sports car brand continued its successful weekend in the GT World Challenge Europe. At the Nürburgring, the #88 Mercedes-AMG Team AKKA ASP car and the #4 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT entry finished in second and third place.

LAWSON SEALS STUNNING DTM ENCORE AT SPIELBERG

Two wins out of two: ahead of the weekend, no one could have imagined a better result for Liam Lawson and the 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Red Bull AF Corse. In the second race, despite 25kg ballast, the nineteen-year-old New Zealander held off Marco Wittmann’s attacks and was first over the finish line with the help of the AF Corse team’s quick pit stop. After a challenging qualifying session, Albon was unlucky to see a potential podium slip away due to a puncture.

MERCEDES-AMG MOTORSPORT EXTENDS DTM LEAD AFTER PODIUM RESULTS

In the fourth event of the 2021 DTM season, the Mercedes-AMG Teams again scored podium results: in the first race on Saturday, Philip Ellis (SUI) managed to end up in second place with the WINWARD Mercedes-AMG GT3 as four further cars from Affalterbach finished the race in the top ten. In the race on Sunday, GruppeM Racing’s Daniel Juncadella (ESP) took the chequered flag in second while four fellow Mercedes-AMG drivers also scored valuable championship points. Mercedes-AMG extended its lead in the manufacturers’ standings.
