Whelen Engineering drivers Felipe Nasr (Brazil), Chase Elliott (Dawsonville, Ga.), Mike Conway (United Kingdom), and Pipo Derani (Brazil) survived the overnight hours unscathed and are currently running fourth 16-hours into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Rolex 24 At Daytona at the Daytona International speedway.
“The car is great,” Nasr said. “I think it is coming to us, the track the conditions and the balance of the Whelen Cadillac. I was able to recover a lot of time during my stint in the early morning. Traffic has been very difficult all race. I feel like we have a good shot. The car is in great shape for the end.”
“We kept it in the top three,” Conway said. “During my stint, it was quite tough – the first one especially. I couldn’t really do anything. I ended up losing a position. I tried to fight back a little bit at the end there [of my stint]. I just couldn’t find a way past [AJ] Allmendinger. He was kind of holding us up. But, I just couldn’t find a way by. We lost some time there. We’re still in it. We’ve just got to keep pushing.”
