Ally drivers Jimmie Johnson (Mooresville, N.C.), Simon Pagenaud (France), Mike Rockenfeller (Germany), and Kamui Kobayashi (Japan) are currently running fifth in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Daytona International Speedway.

Kobayashi was running second and was set to pass the No. 01 Cadillac heading into Turn One for the lead just as the sun was coming up. Unfortunately, the No. 01 Cadillac closed the door pretty quickly, which forced Kobayashi to take evasive action. That action caused him to spin and he lost three positions back to fifth.

“So far it is ok,” Kobayashi said. “There still a long way to go. We are in good shape. Still a long way, which means we have to do our best to bring the car home. The Ally Cadillac is in very good shape and we just need to keep pushing and keep the car in good shape for the finish.”

“We’re trying to recover from the spin right now,” Johnson said. “There was some contact with the 01 car going into Turn One. We’re just trying to evaluate to make sure all is good there. Up until the spin, everything was going really well.
