WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill) and Jules Gounon (France) will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park from the fifth row tomorrow.

The WeatherTech Racing/Proton team had a strong day of practice finishing in the top five in the GTD category in both sessions. For qualifying around the 1.4-miles and 7-turns, six of which are right handers, MacNeil navigated the fast course in the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support in 52.213 good for a ninth place starting position. The entire GTD field is covered by less than a second.

“Qualifying was ok,” MacNeil said. “We made some changes to the WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG since the last practice, and the car felt better. We found some more overall grip. Unfortunately, I had some traffic in the last sector on my last lap. Jules has gotten up to speed quickly here as we knew he would and likes the track. We have nearly three hours of racing tomorrow afternoon to get to the front, so let’s see what happens.”
