Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Alessandro Balzan (Italy), and Jeff Westphal (San Mateo, Calif.) will start the IMSA WeatherTech Championship Motul Petit Le Mans from the front row in GTD.
Westphal had the wheel of the Scuderia Corsa prepared No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 Evo for the 15-minute noon time qualifying session. The Californian shot to the top of the time sheet on his fourth flying lap. The time stood at the head of the 13 car GTD field until he was surpassed with just a minute left in the session. His time of 1:19.464 will have him starting the red, white and blue Ferrari from the outside of the front row in GTD for the 11 a.m. green flag tomorrow morning.
“The 63 WeatherTech Ferrari felt really nice out there today in qualifying,” Westphal said. “We weren’t totally happy with the balance of the car right away in practice yesterday. Cooper, Ale and I worked hard with the Scuderia Corsa team all day yesterday making improvements every session. It was the best it has felt in qualifying so far. Knowing what Petit has to throw at you with 10-hours of racing, inclement weather a possibility and temperature drop at night is something we need to look at. So far I am really happy with the team’s progress.”
