Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Ut.) are heading to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, September 7-9.
The newly minted WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will host the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix featuring America’s Tire 250 this weekend. The race is significant as it is the second to last race on the IMSA Championship schedule. MacNeil is currently fourth in the GTD drivers points chase. The team and drivers have a lot of laps at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, having just participated in the Monterey Historic races just 10 days ago. The Scuderia Corsa run team, that won there last year, is looking to get the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari back on the podium this weekend at the 2.2-mile, 11-turn undulating road course best known for its signature Corkscrew turn.
“I have run at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca twice so far this year, so I am looking forward to getting the Ferrari 488 out on one of my favorite tracks this weekend,” MacNeil said. “We will be focused on getting back up on the podium and getting that streak we had at Road America and Lime Rock back again. We are in the last races of the season and we are also very focused on getting a win this year.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the first IMSA race since the track has become part of the WeatherTech family,” Jeannette said. “Scuderia Corsa won the race there last year, so I expect our car to be strong. With only two races left in the year we’re going to push like hell to get Cooper up into the top three of the championship.”
