Team Parker Racing is very happy to announce that long-term Porsche stalwart Justin Sherwood will make a return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the 2023 season – the tenth in which he has raced in the series.

Making his debut at the end of the 2013 campaign, the Leicestershire-based racer and businessman clinched the Pro-Am 1 title the following season, before recording a hat-trick of championships from 2019-21 in the Am class.

Justin started his racing in the late 1990s, with success in the EFDA (European Formula Drivers’ Association) Nations Cup in 1998, as he and Darren Malkin claimed the title for Team Great Britain at Zandvoort in the Netherlands. In the early 2000s he competed in British Formula 3, in the National Class, taking a win and ten podiums, before hanging up his helmet and concentrating on his family (his son Jack now races in the F4 British Championship) and day-to-day business at the Fred Sherwood Group.

However, during that time he became friendly with Stuart Parker and remained in contact, so when the desire to climb behind the wheel came about again, he was able to undertake some testing in one of Team Parker Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Type 997 machines. After a successful debut in the GT Cup Championship in 2010, where he won his first race at Silverstone, Justin then almost claimed the title in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB in 2012, finishing third as he had to miss races with a trapped nerve in his neck.

He took the title in 2013, also making his debut in the Carrera Cup GB, in which he emerged the Pro-Am 1 champion at the first attempt. Sitting out 2015, he has been an ever-present member of the paddock since then and broke several records in his three Am championship seasons, winning over 50% of the races he has entered in that time.

“I’m glad to be back with Team Parker Racing. I’ve known Stuart and the team for a long time and they’re a great bunch of people with a strong work ethic. It’s such an enjoyable environment to race in – both in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and in the friendly atmosphere at Team Parker, so it was an easy decision to return to the series this year.

“It’s nice to be racing for my tenth season in the Carrera Cup and hopefully we can recapture the Am championship title this year. I’m really pleased to welcome new sponsor Essar on board, hopefully we can achieve some success on track together. Last season was about getting used to the new 992 GT3 Cup car, so we’ll aim to hit the ground running at Donington Park in April.”
