It’s home race week for Flying Lizard Motorsports as the sports car racing team continues the SRO America race season. With three Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars and one Porsche 911 GT3 R, the team will have four races in two race series spread across the race weekend. At their home track of Sonoma Raceway, the team will participate in Rounds Three and Four of the GT America Powered by AWS and the Rounds One and Two of the Pirelli GT4 America series.

“This is a busy weekend for us,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “By adding the cars of Elias Sabo and Andy Lee to those who have already started the season, we have a total of five cars racing this weekend. It is an important event for many reasons but mainly because this is our home track, and our race shops are based here. We have always run well at Sonoma and we hope we have a little ‘home track’ advantage this weekend.”

GT America Powered by AWS

This weekend, the Lizard GT America program goes into full swing, with all three entries competing in Saturday and Sunday’s races. After a successful debut at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg earlier this month, Flying Lizard Motorsports leads the team championship points, with driver Jason Bell sitting atop the GT4 driver standings. In his No. 2 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 will ride the momentum of his win and third-place finish into Sonoma Raceway, looking to build the gap over the competition.

After missing the opening rounds of the championship, driver Elias Sabo and his No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 will begin the 2023 season this weekend at Sonoma Raceway. Last year, he and the 5.11 Tactical machine earned a fifth-place finish at the event, the first of four he would earn over the course of the 2022 season.

After competing in his first temporary street course in St. Petersburg, Andy Wilzoch and his No. 460 Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2) will ride into the race weekend as a strong contender in the SRO3 class of the GT America series. As a Lizard veteran, the accomplished racer has logged in plenty of laps at Sonoma Raceway, taking advantage of the team’s location and well-rounded testing program. He last raced in competition at Sonoma Raceway in 2016, earning a fifth-place finish in what was then the Pirelli World Challenge GTA class.

Twenty-six entries are set to compete in the double-header event, hosting two 40-minute races for bronze-rated drivers. Race one will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 1, followed by race two on Sunday, April 2 at 8:55 AM PT. All races will air live on youtube.com/gtworld.

Pirelli GT4 America

In Pirelli GT4 America, Elias Sabo and Andy Lee return for another season as co-drivers in the sprint series. Each race weekend will be comprised of a pair of 60-minute races in which Sabo and Lee will each drive a minimum amount of time in the No. 8 Flying Lizard 5.11 Tactical Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Sabo and Lee made a formidable paring in 2022, finishing third in the Pro/Am class championship. Their success began at Sonoma Raceway, kicking the previous season off with a third-place podium finish.

This weekend, the 2023 championship kicks off with 43 entries in the GT4 America championship, promising to deliver some of the most action-packed racing under the SRO America umbrella. After two days of on-track test sessions, the official practice sessions for the Sonoma weekend will begin on Friday, March 31. Race one for the GT4 America championship will take place on Saturday, April 1 at 4:50 PM PT, followed by race two on Sunday, April 2 at 10:55 AM PT.
