In this atypical and in many ways complicated year, international events have suffered a lot due to travel uncertainties. However, GT4 South now have the conditions to organize a short season and deliver the GT4 South European title in 6 races which will take place in two events. The GT4 will start in December, on the 12/13 December, at the fantastic Jerez de La Frontera circuit in southern Spain.

The announcement by the European Union that they will not close borders again has given more assurance to the organisation to move forward with this event, which comprises several foreign teams who, obviously, will have to travel from their countries of origin to the Iberian circuits of GT4 South.

As it was announced at the beginning of the year, the structure of this championship entails 2-day events with 3 races each: two sprint races and one endurance race, allowing 1 or 2 drivers per team.

A highlight of both events is that they will be held in conjunction with the Andalusian Championship and the GT Winter Series in Portimão, guaranteeing starting grids with 20 cars or more.

The visit to the Spanish circuit, together with the Andalusian Championship, which normally has two Ginetta G50 GT4, will be a promising start to a championship that brings together dream cars, all with similar paces, thanks to the SRO BOP. and that promise to delight the public and drivers with their sound and fights on the track.

The next round will be in Portimão, on the 23rd and 24th of January 2021, with three more races on the weekend, this time together with the Germans from the GT Winter Series, which last year had 8 GT4 models in their race in Portimão.

2020 teams return to bet on GT4 South
Prior to confirming these two dates, the organisation contacted the interested teams and have secured the presence of the British Tockwith Motorsport, winners of the GTC category in 2019 with their Ginetta G50, and who have already introduced their drivers, and also the Bullitt Racing, a Marbella based team but with key personnel from UK, with their pair of Mercedes AMG GT4. British Valluga Racing is also preparing to enter, with at least two 718 Cayman GT4. Additionally, last year’s winner Mercedes, from MDriving Racing Team, will return with driver José Monroy and a second driver yet to be introduced.

Diogo Ferrão, responsible for Race Ready, said that “2020 it has been a difficult year, but speaking to the teams and seeing their interest, we managed to join forces with the Andalusian Federation and the GT Winter Series to advance with a mini-Championship. Thus, in Jerez we will join the two GT4’s of the Andalusian Championship, expecting to have six GT4’s right from the start, and in Portimão we look forward to set the record for GT4’s racing in Portugal in one race. This is what we can reveal for now.”
