Sebastian Saavedra will take over the No. 7 Lucas Oil Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda this weekend during the Honda Indy Toronto event.
Saavedra will take over the No. 7 from regular driver Mikhail Aleshin, who will be on-site for the race to support the team. The reason for the driver change were not released by the team.
The No. 7 will carry branding from AFS Racing and longtime supporter Gary Peterson, who has competed against Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for years in the Indy Lights series.
“We welcome the opportunity to compete with Ric [Peterson, no relation] and Sam at a venue where Seb and I have had great success in the past,” said Peterson.
Saavedra will partner with his former race engineer Blair Perschbacher, with whom he won multiple races during his time in the Indy Lights Championship.
The Honda Indy Toronto will mark Saavedra’s second Verizon IndyCar Series race this season. He competed in the 101st Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Juncos Racing, finishing 15th.
