CASTRO JOINS PRIAULX AND HALCOME AS PORSCHE CARRERA CUP NORTH AMERICA CHAMPIONS

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands has crowned its champions. With the conclusion of Round 16, held here at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Seb Priaulx (United Kingdom) in the Pro class, Efrin Castro (Dominican Republic) in Pro-Am and Matt Halcome (Dallas, Georgia) for the Pro-Am 991 class have been written into history as the class champions for the inaugural season of North America’s premier one-make race series. Priaulx and Halcome locked their class titles earlier in the weekend, but Castro had to win the third-race of the weekend to have a chance at the Pro-Am title. The Dominican Republic-driver took the lead two-minutes into the race and never relinquished it earning his seventh race win of the year, and his first professional title.

PRIAULX AND HALCOME ARE PORSCHE CARRERA CUP NORTH AMERICA CHAMPIONS

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America has crowned its first two champions one round ahead of the final race. By virtue of his five race wins, including Race 1 here at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Seb Priaulx (United Kingdom) has forever etched his name as the first Pro class titleholder of North America’s premier one-make championship. Joining the young Brit as an early titlist is Georgia-native Matt Halcome (Dallas, Georgia). Seven Pro-Am 991 class wins on the season, to-date, awarded Halcome the title as he took the green flag here in Race 1 at the Braselton, Georgia-track. Round 16, the final race of the season for the series which exclusively uses the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, will take the green flag on Friday, November 12 at 11:15 a.m. ET.

NTE SPORT AIMS FOR STRONG FINALE AT PETITE LE MANS

NTE Sport’s freshman season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will end next weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as the team competes in the season finale, Motul Petit Le Mans. Don Yount, Jaden Conwright, and Benjamin Hites will drive the No. 42 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo, racing in the ten-hour endurance event on November 13. The young team has also expanded its program, adding a Michelin Pilot Challenge entry to the weekend, with Jean-Francois Brunot and Kerong Li driving the No. 41 Audi R8 GT4.

THE BMW M8 GTE MAKES ITS FAREWELL APPEARANCE IN NORTH AMERICA

This Saturday marks the end of an era. After four successful years, the BMW M8 GTE will contest its final race at the MOTUL Petit Le Mans endurance classic at Road Atlanta (USA). BMW Team RLL has competed with the BMW M8 GTE in the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since 2018. During these four years, the team has claimed five wins and a total of 25 podium finishes with the car. The undisputed highlights were the two back-to-back GTLM victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA) in 2019 and 2020. They also won the Driver, Team and Manufacturer titles in the GTLM class in last year’s IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.

ERA MOTORSPORT CRAYON CAR RETURNS FOR IMSA PETIT LE MANS FINALE

Era Motorsport is closing out the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in style this weekend, returning to the fan-designed “Crayon Car” livery the No. 18 Oreca LMP2 car sported for the first race of the year, the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The team drove to victory at the 24-hour endurance race in January, earning their first IMSA win in a livery created by Owen, a then six-year-old fan from Ontario, Canada. This weekend, the Indianapolis-based team will proudly wear the livery once again for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Petit Le Mans.

Three contenders. Three rounds. Three classes. The inaugural season of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America has come down to threes. 32 cars are entered for the final three races of the season at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, November 11 – 12. The Braselton, Georgia-area race track, the competition home of Porsche in North America, will be the stage for the crowning of the class titlists. The ultra-fast 2.54-mile, 12-turn circuit running through the North Georgia mountains just outside of Atlanta will see Rounds 14 and 15 contested on Thursday, November 11 with the final race, Round 16 closing the first year of North America’s premier one-make race series on Friday, November 12. All races are 45-minutes in length.

Entering the final weekend of the 2021 IMSA race season, Porsche and its customer race teams are in the hunt for seven championship titles… and they will do so at their home track in North America. Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will host both Friday’s two-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge championship clincher on November 12 and Saturday’s 24th Running of the Petit Le Mans for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, November 13. The German sports car manufacturer has contenders in both races and is, itself, up for Manufacturer honors in the GS class of Michelin Pilot Challenge and GTD class in the WeatherTech Championship at the Braselton, Georgia-area race track. It doesn’t get any better than this: Montaplast by Land-Motorsport is by far the most successful team in the 2021 German GT Championship and, as in 2016, completes the treble. The team not only won the Drivers’ Championship with Ricardo Feller (21/CH) and Christopher Mies (32/Düsseldorf) at the season finale at the Nürburgring, but also the Team title and, with Feller, the Pirelli Junior competition for young drivers. “It is difficult to put this weekend into words,” said team manager Christian Land. “I am incredibly proud of the whole crew. We were a well-oiled team that all pulled together all year. What we have achieved for the second time today is unbelievable. Thank you to everyone involved who made this possible.”
