FOUR SERIES – FOUR PIT STOPS: PACE AND PERFECTION IN ALL ASPECTS

Perfect pit stops are important for success in every race series. While it will be primarily about the speed of changing tyres at next weekend’s DTM races in Brands Hatch (GBR), in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), it’s the right timing and coordination of the different procedures that is crucial. In addition to changing the tyres, the car is refuelled and a new driver enters the cockpit. We provide an overview of the pit stops in the various race series in which BMW M Motorsport is involved and compare the stops at the upcoming DTM races with those in the FIA WEC, the IMSA series and at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours.

Last weekend’s sensational triumph for Walkenhorst Motorsport at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) with the BMW M6 GT3 was the highlight of the 2018 season so far from a BMW Customer Racing point of view. As well as the BMW M6 GT3’s magnificent victory at Spa, the new BMW M4 GT4, in its first season, has also proved to be a successful model from the word go in the hands of international customers.

WALKENHORST ON SENSATIONAL VICTORY WITH THE BMW M6 GT3: “THIS WIN MEANS AN AWFUL LOT TO EVERY ONE OF US.”

The biggest success in the history of Walkenhorst Motorsport so far is the  sensational victory at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) 24 Hours. After 24 hours and 511 laps of racing, the BMW customer racing  team from Melle near Osnabrück (GER) came home ahead of all the high-class teams from other manufacturers. The #34 BMW M6 GT3, driven by BMW works drivers Philipp Eng (AUT) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) together with their team-mate Christian Krognes (NOR), crossed the finish line in first place. The BMW success was rounded off by a fine second place for the ROWE Racing #99 BMW M6 GT3 which, like Walkenhorst Motorsport, is a customer team supported by BMW Motorsport.
