Former Formula One driver Markus Winkelhock will join B-Quik Absolute Racing for the third round of the Thailand Super Series (TSS) 2022, to be held at Chang International Circuit, Buriram, on October 29/30, as well for as the final round of the year which will see the series return to the North East on December 8-11.

Winkelhock, who famously led the 2007 European Grand Prix on his one and only Formula One start, will join TSS podium finisher and multi-title winning Filipino racecar driver Markus Winkelhok at the wheel of the #55 Audi R8 LMS evo II.

Winkelhock is a familiar face to Absolute Racing, having celebrated a podium finish in the 2018 10 Hours of Suzuka driving for Audi Sport Team Absolute Racing. The son of Manfred Winkelhock and nephew of Joachim Winkelhock, both of whom were pretty successful on their one-off appearances in Asia back in the day, he carved out a successful career in sportscar racing, winning the GT1 World Championship in 2012, the Intercontinental GT Challenge title in 2017 and the Pro-Am crown of the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup in 2018. He’s also a three-time winner of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, having won the popular German enduro in 2012, 2014 and 2017.

German GT ace Winkelhock said, “I am really looking forward to my debut in the Thailand Super Series. It’s really nice to be going to a new track since a long time. I already watched some onboards on YouTube and it looks a pretty nice circuit I have to say. It’s also nice to be back with B-Quik Absolute Racing. I twice did the Suzuka 10 hours with Absolute Racing which we finished in second place in 2018. I hope to get up on top of the podium this time.”

B-Quik Absolute Racing’s Ingo Matter added: “We are extremely happy to have Markus back in one of our cars. It was planned for a long time and we are excited to finally confirm that he will join Vincente in Thailand for TSS. All the other drivers will benefit from his experience. It’s fantastic to have an Absolute Racing family member back.”

Round three gets underway on Friday, October 28, with two 30-minute free practice sessions. Two qualifying sessions will start at 09:25, October 29, and the races will start at 16:15, October 29, and at 12.10 on Sunday, October 30 (all times UTC+07:00).
