Whelen Engineering drivers Felipe Nasr (Brazil), Chase Elliott (Dawsonville, Ga.), Mike Conway (United Kingdom), and Pipo Derani (Brazil) are running fourth eight hours into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Rolex 24 At Daytona.

“It was nice to be upfront for a while,” Nasr said. “Overall the speed and balance of the 31 Whelen Cadillac is pretty good. When the track went cooler we did some tire pressure adjustments. We got caught up at the end and had to do an emergency pit stop for gas. You just get shuffled back forward. The way the track conditions are it suits our Cadillac. The track keeps changing. The cooler temperatures will change the cars again. Right now, I am very happy with the Whelen Cadillac.”

“I think it was okay,” Conway said of his stint in the car. “We’re just trying to improve the balance of the car as we go along. We managed to pick up a few positions. I don’t know, I think we’re lacking a little bit of pace right now. I think if we keep working on the car, I think we’ll be okay.

It’s very busy with the extra cars we have this year on track. You don’t really get any clear laps anymore. We’re just trying to do the best we can through traffic. I think that’s where we gain some time with the other cars. We just need to keep plugging away, keep doing what we’re doing, and stay out of trouble.”
