Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Matt Campbell (Australia) will start tomorrow’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sportscar weekend from third on the GTLM grid.

Rainy conditions have been in the Elkhart Lake area yesterday and today. The morning practice was run in the dry with the WeatherTech Porsche 911 RSR and Matt Campbell running a 2:01.843 good for P1 in GTLM. The Proton Competition crew had to change the car over to a wet set-up for MacNeil for the 15-minute qualifying session this afternoon. He was able to post a time good enough for third for tomorrow’s two-hour-and-forty-minute race at the 4-mile, 14-turn undulating Road America circuit.

“Not a bad qualifying session,” MacNeil said. “The gap would have been a lot closer in the dry. That is Road America for you. This time of year, you have to expect this kind of weather. We got about three laps yesterday in the rain in a shortened session because of lightning. I was able to find a nice rhythm in the rain in qualifying and clicked off some consistent laps. We have it all to play for in tomorrow’s race.”
