Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Matt Campbell (Australia) will start tomorrow’s running of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from third in GTLM.

MacNeil had the wheel of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche RSR for the 15-minute qualifying session this afternoon. As the session went on his times began to fall until he posted a fast lap of 1:21.931 that will have him starting from third in the Proton Competition prepared Porsche.

“The WeatherTech Porsche was really good,” MacNeil said. “Thanks to the Proton Competition guys the car has been good since practice one yesterday. After a win, sometimes you just expect to be quick at the next race without pushing hard. But this team puts in the work to keep us up front and it pays off on the race weekends. They get every ounce of pace out of the Porsche that they can, and it was evident today. We are close to the Corvettes on the time sheet. I will aim to do my part, keep the car clean and hand it over to Matt and let him do his thing.”
