WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill), Maro Engel (Germany), and Mikael Grenier (Canada) will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen from seventh on the GTD Pro grid at Watkins Glen International for tomorrow’s six-hour race.

MacNeil had the controls of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana car for the 15-minute qualifying session. Under sunny skies and 88-degree temperatures he posted a time of 1:46.699 good for a fourth row staring position. The drivers and the WeatherTech Racing/Proton team have a good handle on the red, white, and blue Mercedes heading into tomorrow’s 10:40 a.m. ET start time.

“Pretty good qualifying session,” MacNeil said. “The WeatherTech Mercedes AMG was handing nicely. The track conditions got a lot hotter from this morning’s practice session. That affected our Michelin tires a bit, but they stuck to the racetrack really well allowing me to roll through these fast Watkins Glen corners. We have a good platform going into the race tomorrow. I think we have a good shot at moving up the field and battling for a podium.”
