WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill) and Daniel Juncadella (Spain) will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship IMSA Fastlane Sportscar Weekend from eighth on the GTD Class grid at Road America for tomorrow’s early start.

MacNeil had the controls of the WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition prepared the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support for the 15-minute qualifying session. Under 80-degree heat and sunshine he posted a lap time of 2:07.895 good for a fourth row start in eighth.

The team is anxiously watching the weather for tomorrow’s 10:40 a.m. CT race start as there is heavy rain forecast for the morning in the Kettle Moraine region of central Wisconsin.

“Pretty good qualifying session,” MacNeil said. “I was able to find over a second-and-a-half compared to my fast time of yesterday, so I was happy with that effort. I’m only three-tenths off Dani’s (Juncadella) fast lap from yesterday. I wish we were starting a little bit higher on the grid, but it is looking to be a wet race tomorrow which will equalize things. We have the heaviest car in the field, so that may help us in the rain tomorrow. We have two-hours-and-forty-five minutes to move up and it should be a pretty good show in the rain.”
