Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Alessandro Balzan (Italy), and Jeff Westphal (San Mateo, Calif.) will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts from fifth in GTD.

MacNeil had the controls of the Scuderia Corsa prepared WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 Evo for the 15-minute qualifying session around the 3.74-mile, 17-turn Sebring International Raceway. Pushing for a top time he got over aggressive exiting Turn 5 and had a spin. He was able to recover and post his fast lap time of 2:01.802 good for a third row starting position on the 13-car GTD grid.

Between the three drivers, they ran in the top five in yesterday’s night practice. An important note as one-third of the race, that is typically run in March, will be run in darkness.

“I hate seeing two-tenths to P3, makes me think what could’ve been,” MacNeil said. “I tried to get more time out of the car, but I had a little off. I was able to regroup, scrub the tires and put in my fast time a few laps later. We are starting fifth in a 12-hour race. Our WeatherTech Ferrari is strong over a stint, we proved that last night. There will be four or five hours of darkness here, so that is the most important time to have a good car. We are starting from a good position. I am looking forward to the race.”
