WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Utah) will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park from fifth on the GTD grid this afternoon.

MacNeil had the wheel of the Scuderia Corsa prepared No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari for the 15-minute qualifying session this morning. He was able post a time of 51.848 around the 1.4-mile, 7-urn circuit comprised of one left hand turn and six right handers. The time initially had the young driver in third, but last-minute heroics by a couple competitors will have him starting the black and white Ferrari from the third row for this afternoon’s 3 p.m. ET start. With one-second covering all ten GTD competitors, the race is sure to be fast and furious.

“I was able to string the short sectors of this track together and put in a good lap this morning,” MacNeil said. “We were running P3 for a while and then we got bumped by really no time at all to put us down to fifth. It was one of my better qualifying runs this year. We have a long hot race to run today. It will be about keeping the tires under the car and staying out of trouble and the penalty box.”

“So far it has been a great weekend,” Jeannette said. “Cooper drove it hard in qualifying and put the WeatherTech Ferrari ahead of some guys who have pretty big names in sports car racing. I think we have a pretty good WeatherTech race car, but we will have to manage the tires. We need to be in a better position than everyone else as far as tire management goes and we will have a good race.”
