WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished third today at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park.

MacNeil had the wheel of the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari for the start of the race. Taking the green from the third row he was able to keep the Scuderia Corsa prepared Ferrari in the top five. Turning the car over to Jeannette the seasoned driver went on to get the car to the top of the timing chart and then had a spin into Big Bend (Turn 1) just before his last pit stop. Rejoining the field in sixth with fresh tires, he took advantage of competitor mis-ques and put a thrilling pass on the No. 86 Acura with four-minutes to go to secure the final step on the podium for the team.

“Getting back on the podium in one of the most competitive class’ in North America is always a good feeling,” MacNeil said. “I put in a good opening stint, keeping the momentum going from the qualifying run. It is easy to go down a lap here with just a small mistake. The racing here is tight and fast. Gunnar did a great job to recover from the spin and get us on the podium. A big thanks to the WeatherTech/Scuderia Corsa guys for persevering. We have had an up-and-down season. They all work hard. We haven’t been on the podium since Sebring in March. They have been working hard to get us back up there and it happened today. Now we go on to, what I consider to be, our home track at Road America. We will be locked and loaded for that one.”

“I unfortunately made it harder on myself than it needed to be,” Jeannette said. “Cooper did a great job. The Scuderia Corsa guys gave us a good car. We didn’t have the single lap pace, but if you drove it right we had a consistent car over the stint. After I drove off, I had to redeem myself and was able to work my forward and get on the podium.”

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will travel to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the Aug. 3-5 for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase.
