Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Ut.) are taking a two-race podium streak to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend, August 17-19.

The No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari team has finished third in the last two races at Road America and Lime Rock. MacNeil and Jeannette started the streak and are looking to keep it going this weekend at the 3.2-mile, 17-turn VIR. As a result of the ontrack success, IMSA has reduced turbo boost for the Scuderia Corsa prepared Ferrari, across all RPM levels, along with a 2-liter fuel capacity reduction. MacNeil is currently fourth in IMSA GTD points with 209.

“VIR is a fun track to drive,” MacNeil said. “It has nearly every kind of corner and has a good deal of elevation change. The reduction in boost and fuel will definitely hurt our performance this weekend at VIR as there are a lot of high-speed sections. We will try to get a result through strategy and consistency.”

“VIR is one of the most fun and challenging tracks that we race on the IMSA schedule,” Jeannette said. “The track is very busy, hard to pass and normally very warm. With all the GT cars being so close it should make for an exciting race. Going into VIR we’ve been hit with a BOP (Balance of Performance) reduction of power. Unfortunately, this is through our whole RPM range, so it will be a disadvantage everywhere”
