WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Toni Vilander (Kankaanpää, Finland) are heading to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin SportsCar GT Challenge to run at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), August 23-25.

VIR is a challenging 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course that has a combination of turns that reward a strong set-up and driver bravery. The long laps, third longest to Road America and Sebring, on the schedule will have drivers MacNeil and Vilander working hard with the Scuderia Corsa team to get the most out of the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari this weekend.

“VIR is a great natural terrain road course that really has nearly every kind of turn,” MacNeil said. “The fast Esses are a focus for us with the WeatherTech Ferrari’s set-up. You also need maximum traction off of the Oak Tree turn to get down that long straight away. We have had a tough season, so with three races to go we would like to put together a string of good results heading into the season finale at Petit Le Mans where we won last year.”

“VIR is an awesome race track,” Vilander said. “Again, one of those really iconic hard racing tracks. I love the Esses – it’s a challenge going flat out to the top of the hill. I don’t think I ever raced there with the actual Oak Tree, but the corner is still there and the corner name is historic. I’m really looking forward to running VIR this weekend. The track offers a lot of grip with low tire degradation, so it will be hard on cars and drivers. It’s quite a physical race track.”
