Frederik Schandorff will be back in the International GT Open paddock in 2021, chasing the overall crown with Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (VSR).

Schandorff, 24, last competed in the GT Open Series with VSR in 2019, capturing the Pro-Am class title in the Italian team’s Lamborghini Huracán GT3. The success was the Dane’s fourth in that season alone, as he rose to wider prominence with championship titles in both the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World and Middle East series, and the top step of the podium in the Dubai 24 Hours.

Although 2020 proved to be difficult for motorsport as a whole, Schandorff found ways to continue his streak, claiming the Silver Cup class title in the GT World Challenge Europe with Barwell Motorsport, while also remaining with VSR to contest the Italian GT, taking sixth overall after a limited programme of events.

The 2021 season will see Schandorff step up to VSR’s #63 Pro class Huracán, which will again be backed by PR electronics. Already a member of Lamborghini’s GT3 Junior programme, the Dane — who will share the VSR entry with Italy’s Michele Beretta — is hoping that success in his first full Pro class season will allow him to continue along the path towards full factory driver status.

“Last year was an unusual one for everyone and, naturally, racing seemed a little less significant given what was happening around the world,” Schandorff admitted, “However, in the circumstances, it was obviously fantastic to win another championship and continue the successful run I have been enjoying of late. It is great to be able to confirm my 2021 programme and announce that I will again be running with Vincenzo Sospiri Racing in International GT Open — a series where we have both tasted victory in the past. I must also thank to my sponsor, PR electronics, Lamborghini Squadra Corse and PPM for their support in putting this exciting programme together.”

Schandorff moves into a second season with Peak Performance Management (PPM), continuing its links with the sportscar arena.

“We’re pleased to have Frederik on board for another year and look forward to further aiding his progress in the GT category,” director Matt Parry commented, “He obviously knows how to win, having taken five titles in the past two years, and we’re delighted that he can remain with Vincenzo Sospiri Racing as he steps up the Pro class this season. Thank you to PR electronics for their continued support — here’s to more silverware in 2021.”
