Fast Track Racing Looks to Return to Championship Form at VIR

Fast Track Racing (Formerly Classic BMW Motorsports) will look to defend its Driver and Team championships from a very successful 2016 campaign when the Touring Car (TC) portion of the Pirelli World Challenge Championship resumes in the rolling hills of southern Virginia at Virginia International Raceway, April 28th-30th.

Fast Track Racing returns as an arsenal of four cars for VIR (and 2017) with two rookies joining series veterans Toby Grahovec and Gino Carini. Grahovec, defending 2016 TC Champion, will be driving the iconic No.1 BMW M235IR and Carini will drive the No. 2 BMW M235IR. Joining an already stout line-up Justin Raphael will pilot car No. 29 and Chris Ohmacht will drive car No. 92, both identically prepared BMW M235IR machinery to their teammates.

Clearly an evident factor in the growth of the Touring Car class was the success of the M235IR in the hands of the talented Grahovec throughout 2016. For 2017, Fast Track Racing will battle against thirty-plus entries, of the best sports car drivers in North America. Among many new entries, the BMW M235IR package which claimed the championship last season seems to be a popular weapon. “I can’t wait to start the season at VIR, I’m super excited about our progress in pre-season testing. I believe we have a great shot at defending the team championship, but my eye is to try and bring another overall championship home for BMW,” said Grahovec.

Carini returns to Fast Track Racing with one year of experience behind the wheel of his No. 2 BMW M235IR. “I’m hoping that after coming off a 2016 Driver and Team Championship season, we continue to make the people behind the scenes at BMW in Munich proud of us,” mentioned Carini when asked his thoughts on the 2017 season.

Eager to start off on the right foot at VIR are series newcomers, Justin Raphael and Chris Ohmacht. Raphael, hailing from Franklin Lakes, NJ was beaming with enthusiasm prior to VIR, “I’m extremely excited for the first Pirelli World Challenge races this weekend. VIR is an incredible track and I’m looking forward to an adrenaline fueled season with Fast Track Racing aboard my BMW M235IR.”

“I couldn’t be more excited for the season opener at VIR this weekend. We have a great team with Fast Track Racing and the BMW M235IR should be very competitive at this track,” said Ohmacht, also from New Jersey.

Practice commences Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1:00PM EST time for Fast Track Racing and the rest of the Touring Car paddock. Live timing and session notes can be found at world-challenge.com. Live stream coverage will be made possible by MotorTrend OnDemand, Race One will be broadcast April 29th at 12:55 PM EST and Race Two April 30th at 2:30 PM EST.
