Phoenix Racing Asia scored a podium finish in the five-hour Super Taikyu race at the stunning Autopolis Circuit in Japan. The race, held at over 3,000 metres above sea-level on the mountain-top circuit, marked the fourth stop of the 2018 Super Taikyu season, with the #82 Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Alex Au, Audi Sport customer racing Asia driver pool member Shaun Thong and three-time Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup champion Alex Yoong taking third overall for their second series podium of the year.

The #81 J-Fly Racing by Phoenix Racing Asia entry of Jeffrey Lee, Super GT driver André Couto and reigning Cup champion Alessio Picariello was just shy of the podium in fourth, while the #83 Phoenix Racing Asia entry of Shintaro Kawabata, Lim Keong Wee and Melvin Moh took the flag just behind in sixth.

Meanwhile on the streets of Bangsaen in Thailand’s Chonburi province, B-Quik Racing had a tough weekend in the Thailand Super Series double-header. Team stalwart Daniel Bilski was joined by Audi Sport customer racing Asia driver pool member Adderly Fong, who was making his first appearance at the 12th running of the beachside Bangsaen Grand Prix.

Despite encouraging stints from both drivers in each of the series’ Super Car GTM+ races, their round five and six podium hopes were dashed when their Audi R8 LMS ultra succumbed to technical issues in the latter stages of both races as the bumpy, challenging street circuit took its toll.
