Performance Tech Motorsports has withdrawn from the IMSA race at MICHELIN Raceway Road Atlanta due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19.

The Deerfield Beach based team will skip Round 2 of the MICHELIN Endurance Cup after reviewing the mandated quarantine and travel restrictions that directly affect crew and drivers. The mandated quarantines along with the added risk presented by travelling to a hot-spot state leaves Team Principal Brent O’Neill confident in the team’s decision.

O’Neill is comfortable in the decision made when weighing schedule and quarantine conflicts with the IMSA Prototype Challenge series. Currently Performance Tech sits in fifth place overall with the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier in the team championship. Dan Goldburg sits in fifth place and Cameron Cassels sits in seventh in the driver championship.

“This season has been really difficult for everyone and is even harder for teams like us who have international members,” O’Neill said. “We still have two Prototype Challenge races left that I need my guys in the country and healthy for, so we’ve shifted our focus to Round 5 at Mid-Ohio. It’s always tough to miss a race but there are a lot of more moving pieces than usual so I think we made the right call by sitting this week out.”

The team cannot confirm what the rest of the its season will entail outside of the Motul Petit Le Mans, the Mobile 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and the remaining two rounds of IMSA Prototype Challenge. With the No. 19, the No. 6 and the No. 75 drivers making a charge for the championship lead the team has now shifted gears entirely to prepare for IMSA Prototype Challenge Round 5 at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course, Sept. 25-27.
