Nissan will head to Japan’s southernmost circuit for the next round of the Super GT championship next weekend at Autopolis.

Built in 1990, the circuit first held a Super GT race in 2003 with Nissan taking its first win there in 2004 with Satoshi Motoyama and Richard Lyons victorious.

Nissan has five Super GT wins at the 4.67 km circuit, including 2006 with Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer, 2012 with Masataka Yanagida and Ronnie Quintarelli, 2014 with Yanagida and Motoyama and 2015 with Quintarelli and Tsugio Matsuda.

The past two wins have been particularly impressive – 2014 was a 1-2-3 Nissan podium, and 2015 was a 1-2 finish with Hiro Yasuda and JP de Oliveira finishing second.

There was no race held in 2016 after an earthquake in Kumamoto damaged the circuit.

Last year, Motoyama qualified on the front row and Nissan finished with all four cars in the top ten led by the Japanese veteran and Katsumasa Chiyo in fourth place.

Former GT Academy winner Jann Mardenborough and Japanese teammate Daiki Sasaki will be looking for another good result after dominant performances in the past two rounds. The duo scored their first podium together at Sugo but had looked set to win the previous round at Fuji only to suffer a late-race technical issue while leading.

This weekend’s penultimate round of the championship will be streamed live on NISMO.tv and NISMO.com.
