Nissan e.dams today began its preparations for the next round of the ABB FIA Formula E championship in Hong Kong with the final day of season five in-season testing at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Today’s pair of three-hour test sessions at the venue for yesterday’s Mexico City E-Prix is the final chance for all Formula E teams to run their cars outside of the championship race weekends.

Nissan e.dams completed 159 laps for a total of 333 kilometers of running with Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland behind the wheel.

The team took the opportunity to concentrate on race performance rather than chasing outright qualifying pace.

Nissan became the first-ever Japanese manufacturer to enter the all-electric street racing championship this season – using the championship to showcase the performance side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the brand’s vision for changing how cars are driven, powered and integrated into society.

“Today was an important day as it was the last opportunity for us and all the teams to continue on-track development without the pressure of a race weekend,” Nissan global motorsport director, Michael Carcamo said.

“That is one of the great things about this championship. It is a level playing field when it comes to testing. No team or manufacturer can go out testing every day to try to get an advantage.

“We do a lot of work on the simulator which is very helpful, but every lap of track time is very valuable.

“We continued to be very happy with our overall pace, and we’re very much looking forward to heading to Hong Kong.”

The next two rounds of the championship will be held with Asia with Hong Kong scheduled for March 10, followed by Sanya in China on March 23. The championship will then head to Europe with rounds in Rome, Paris, Monaco, Berlin, and Bern before coming to an end in the US for a doubleheader on July 13 and 14.

DRIVER QUOTES

SEBASTIEN BUEMI

“This is the last opportunity to test at a proper Formula E race track so today is important to try some new software and updates. We’ll now analyze the data and head to Hong Kong a bit stronger.

“I’m very much looking forward to Hong Kong after we’ve missed a couple of opportunities and hopefully, we can get the result that we all want.”

OLIVER ROWLAND

“We spent the day with a lot of upgrades and some set-up changes and this afternoon we concentrated on long run pace.

“We got through the program and learned a lot and now we’ll go through the data and come back stronger in Hong Kong.

“I’m really looking forward to the next race. We’ve shown how strong our package is and I think we’re looking good for the rest of the season.”
