Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) will start the IMSA Fast Lane Weekend from third on the grid at Road America on Sunday.
MSR driver Tom Blomqvist manned the controls for the 15 minute session as he looked to claim a third pole position with the No. 60 MSR Acura ARX-05 DPi. Blomqvist will share the driving duties in Sunday’s two hour, 40-minute race with Oliver Jarvis.
After finding a gap in the traffic, Blomqvist progressively shaved time off his best time with each of his laps, but was unable to improve as the session was red flagged early when another Prototype went off track.
“The session ended a little early, so we didn’t get to set one more lap,” said Blomqvist. “But I am not sure if it would have made a difference. We missed the window a little bit and didn’t have the pace to challenge for pole. We will try to understand where we can improve, but obviously we expect to have really different conditions for the race.”
Qualifying ran under hot and humid conditions as the large contingent of Road America fans enjoyed a warm and sunny day at the “National Park of Speed.” However,
Sunday’s forecast could provide a dramatically different setting, with rain and storms widely anticipated.
“It would be more straightforward if we raced in the dry tomorrow, but the conditions could create an advantage for us, so we will just have to see how the day goes,” said Blomqvist, who has previous experience at the track in IMSA GT competition.
