The No. 86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 will look to score a third consecutive victory in the Detroit Grand Prix Presented by Lear when the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship returns to Belle Isle on May 30-June 1.

The 2.35-mile street course will stage the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar “sprint cup,” which consists of seven event weekends for races that are two hours and 40-minutes or shorter.

Meyer Shank Racing’s 2017 Detroit victory was the first win for the Acura NSX GT3 platform in North America in just its fifth outing with the car. MSR backed up that momentum with a second victory in 2018 with drivers Mario Farnbacher and Katherine Legge.

Farnbacher and Trent Hindman will pair in the No. 86 MSR Acura NSX GT3 in pursuit of another IMSA podium together. The duo most recently scored a second-place finish at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course which saw Farnbacher make a thrilling last lap pursuit for the win.

“I’m very excited to be heading back to Detroit, I love street circuits and I have been very successful in Detroit,” said Farnbacher who has two wins and a podium at the track in IMSA competition. “The only new thing is that Trent has never raced there so we have to teach him the track. I think he will figure it out pretty quickly. And we know that the Acuras work pretty well there so hopefully we can have another good race and continue our momentum.”

Hindman who is in his first full season of IMSA WeatherTech competition will be heading to Detroit for the very first time. But the young talent has proven his abilities to get up to speed quickly.

“It’s been a few years since I last had the opportunity to race on a street circuit, but it’s something I absolutely love,” said Hindman. “It’s a high risk, high reward style of racing that isn’t seen too often in this day in age. Last year Katherine and Mario brought the No. 86 Acura NSX home with the W, and this year Mario and I will be shooting for the same. Mario is obviously phenomenal around Belle Isle and I’ll be leaning on him quite a bit for guidance. The Meyer Shank Racing team are proven winners in Detroit and the Acura NSX is the perfect car for this style of racetrack.”

“It’s great that we are able to head back to Detroit,” said Mike Shank. “Historically its been a good track for us and with wins the last two years, it was a no-brainer to come back and try to get our third. Mario is very fast in Detroit and he showed that with our win last year. Trent is a quick learner and with Mario helping him out, I think he will get up to speedy very quickly.”
