Luca Ghiotto changes from Formula 2 to GT3 where he will graduate into the professional world of racing and join R-Motorsport in 2020 to compete in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the GT World Challenge Europe. The 24-year-old Italian from Vincenza is looking for a new challenge in professional GT long distance and sprint racing next year.

Luca Ghiotto has a strong motor racing family background with his father Franco and his uncle Sergio having raced themselves in the past. Luca’s career has been a straight affair so far with the usual steps to be taken by talented drivers in various single seater categories. Like many other racing drivers he earned his first laurels in Karting. Between 2008 and 2010 he competed in various national and international Kart championships. In 2011 and 2012 he took his first single seater race car wins in Formula Abarth, the predecessor of Formula 4 of today, and finished as runner-up in the Italian Championship in 2012.

Following two seasons in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and in the Formula Renault 3.5 Championship Luca entered GP3, today’s Formula 3, in 2015. In this hotly contested junior category, which is run during the Formula 1 weekends, Luca won five races and finished as runner-up in the championship only beaten by present Formula 1 pilot Esteban Ocon. The next step followed by entering GP2, which has been renamed Formula 2 two years ago, and is also a supporting race series of the Grand Prix weekends and the last stepping stone to Formula 1. The Formula 2 record of success shows five victories and 21 podium finishes until the end of the 2019 championship. This year Luca is third in the driver standings before the last race at Abu Dhabi. He also gained a first experience in long distance racing this year when he started in a Ginetta LMP1 prototype in the Fuji World Endurance Championship round.

Luca Ghiotto: “R-Motorsport is one of the absolute top teams in international GT sport. My comprehensive race program in two GT3 top racing series will be a real challenge for me. The change from single seater racing into a professional GT3 team like R-Motorsport is an important career step for me and offers a new perspective for my future in the sport. I am looking forward to working together with the team and can’t wait to start into my first GT3 long distance race in 2020.”

Dr. Florian Kamelger: “We warmly welcome Luca at R-Motorsport. He is obviously a driver with a great future in international automobile racing and has already proved his talent with victories and top results on various final championship tables. He is a highly valued addition to our team and it will be certainly exciting working with him in future.”
