Performance Tech Motorsports IMSA Prototype Challenge drivers are moving into the spotlight in 2021 as the LMP3 series joins the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as a new class.

Along with the release of the 2021 season schedule, IMSA announced the addition of the LMP3 Class to the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The IMSA Prototype Challenge series is set to continue in 2021 as well featuring the new 2021 LMP3 EVO in a class of its own.

This reworking of class structure leaves Team Principal Brent O’Neill hopeful for the future of this sport as his drivers and sponsors are presented with a plethora of more options and opportunities to succeed on the largest sports car stage in North America.

“I think this was a great call by John Doonan and IMSA,” O’Neill said. “With the LMP2 class dwindling it left my LMP3 guys at a dead end. Now they can advance to the next level while still driving the cars they’ve grown accustomed to. I think a ton of other teams will continue their programs into the WeatherTech series and we’ll see the overall car count skyrocket.”

The LMP3 Class will continue to feature its three manufacturers and models; the Norma M30, the Ligier JS P3 and the Ginetta-Juno P3. Faced with the pace of the GTD, GTLM, DPi and LMP2 classes, the LMP3 teams hope to see a more equal Balance of Performance (BoP) distributed across its manufacturers. Performance Tech Motorsports is among the hopeful as the teams’ three Ligier JS P3 cars have suffered considerably throughout the 2020 season, racing against the BoP favored Norma M30.

The teams 2021 plans are already in the works at its Deerfield Beach headquarters, however it cannot confirm its entries until the conclusion of the 2020 season. For the latest driver pairing, sponsorship and car entry announcements follow the team on social media or subscribe to its newsletter. The below 2021 schedule currently is set to run with a larger capacity of crew and fans subject to change based on developing events surrounding COVID-19.
