DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi fielded by Action Express Racing continues to lead the Rolex 24 at Daytona Int’l Speedway after eight hours.

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the car shared by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi and Filipe Albuquerque. The team has found themselves battling their Action Express Racing team car driven by Mike Conway, Felipe Nasr, Eric Curran and Stuart Middleton, as well as the Team Penske Acura ARX-05 DPi of Helio Castroneves, Ricky Taylor and Graham Rahal.

The Penske Acura squad is currently second overall with Castroneves at the wheel, more than 25 seconds behind leader Albuquerque. The second Action Express entry, No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi currently driven by Curran, sits third.

Trouble struck United Autosports No. 23 entry shared by former Formula One champion Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris and Phil Hanson fell off the pace after a flat tire caused severe damage to the car while Hanson was driving. The team currently sits 11th overall, with Alonso getting back in the car shortly before the eight-hour mark.

In GT Le Mans the battle for the lead is between the Ford GT entries. The No. 66 of Dirk Muller, Joey Hand and Sebastien Bourdais currently hold a lead of less than a second over the second Ford GT shared by Ryan Briscoe, Scott Dixon and Richard Westbrook.

The GT Daytona field is currently chasing the Montaplast by Land Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 shared by Sheldon van der Linde, Kelvin van der Linde and Jeffrey Schmidt. They lead by more than a lap over the No. 33 Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Ben Keating, Jeroen Bleekemolen and Adam Christodoulou.
