Henrique Chaves won the second race of the Autodromo Internazionale di Monza International GT Open’s weekend, ending the championship in a high and achieving the third place in the Drivers’ Standings in his GT debut.

After yesterday’s unlucky day, the Portuguese and his teammate, Martin Kodric, didn’t give up and in this morning qualifying the Torres Vedra’s youngster signed the second fastest lap, 0,030s from the poletime.

The start for the sixty-one-minute race was a hard affair, with many fights, and Henrique Chaves had to give up a position, settling for third with the top-two in his sights, a strategic approach, as between the top-contenders, he was the one who had the smallest pit-stop handicap.

The strategy was fruitful, and, after the driver change, Martin Kodric was leading comfortably, taking the Teo Martín Motorsports’ McLaren 720S GT3 to the flag in the first place, which meant the first win in the International GT Open for the pair. “I did my stint with used tires, which didn’t allow me to attack, but the goal was to keep our distance to our opponents so we could be in the lead after the driver change. The strategy worked really well, and Martin was first, taking the flag in the lead without problems. It’s a win that we wanted for a long time and today everything went perfectly”, said the driver from Torres Vedras.

With today’s result, Henrique Chaves, and his teammate, ends the International GT Open’s season in the Drivers’ Standing’s third position with the same points as the second classified drivers’ pair, a positive result, as the Portuguese driver debuted this year in the selective GT3 world. “It was a good way to end the championship. During the year, we showed that we could be competitive, and we were in the title fight until the last racing weekend. I believe that, for my category debut, it was very positive and helps me to promote my career in a very competitive world. I would like to thank to Teo Martín Motorsport for its professionalism and for the support that gave me during all season”, underline the Portuguese youngster.

With the International GT Open’s season end, Henrique Chaves still has ahead his participation in the FIA Motorsport Games GT Cup, that will be held at Vallelunga between October 31st and November 3rd.
