The No. 57 Caterpillar Acura NSX GT3 of Heinricher Racing with Meyer Shank Racing heads to Detroit at the end of the month for IMSA’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. Katherine Legge and Christina Nielsen will team up for the one-hour and 40-minute event around the 2.35-mile Belle Isle street circuit.
The entry is part of the Heinricher Racing team’s commitment to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship “Sprint Cup,” consisting of seven sprint format events.
Legge and Nielsen are coming off IMSA’s first sprint race of the season at Meyer Shank Racing’s home track of Mid-Ohio where they made a strong run prior to suffering damage and finishing in 10th place.
“Heinricher Racing and our partners Caterpillar and ExxonMobil are pleased to have drivers Katherine Legge and Christina Nielsen race Detroit,” said Jackie Heinricher, owner of Heinricher Racing. “Both drivers have impressive resumes at the Detroit circuit and will make a powerful all-female duo for this race. Our team has exactly what it takes to win.”
Legge is looking for her third straight victory in Detroit. After winning in 2017, the inaugural event and first race win for the Acura NSX GT3 with Meyer Shank Racing, she followed up with another win last season.
“I am looking forward to going back to Detroit, the site of back-to-back wins for MSR, Acura and myself, and the first NSX win globally,” said Legge. “I am grateful for the opportunity to defend our sweep there. I hope the weather is better than it was in Mid-Ohio. Hopefully the only water we encounter is a dip in the fountain after the race. Christina has an equally stout resume at Detroit, claiming three podiums in the
2015, 2016 and 2017 editions of the event, so I have high hopes for the weekend.”
“I’m super grateful to get this opportunity from Heinricher Racing and Meyer Shank Racing to drive at Detroit,” said Nielsen who is confirmed for the remaining endurance events. “I really love the track. It’s a cool circuit with lots of close racing, but it’s also an event that is always well executed and gives back to the community. I had three podiums in 2015-2017 so I hope to add another one to the books. The team has been really impressive there the last couple of years so I feel like I am in good hands.”
