Some of the world’s most incredible hyper sportscars will join together on-track this weekend when GT1 Sports Club Powered by Curbstone Events stages its inaugural meeting at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Launching with a warm-up session (12.35-13.15) on Sunday 10 October before running a full schedule on Monday 11 October, the prologue event will take place at the 4.7km Spanish Grand Prix venue alongside the title-deciding round of Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS (8-10 October). It marks the first outing for the prestigious new driving programme, which caters for a breed of elite machinery that does not usually have an opportunity to share the track.
Participating cars will be present throughout the weekend in the GT1 village, located at the heart of the Barcelona paddock, where they will be displayed for all to appreciate. While sessions are non-competitive the concept is fundamentally inspired by racing and draws upon the vast global experience of SRO Motorsports Group. The emotive GT1 name has been revived in recognition of the highly exclusive nature of the eligible machinery, which would form the GT1 class of today were it homologated for competition.
Indeed, the list of entrants for the prologue event is truly breathtaking. No fewer than six examples will carry the McLaren badge, with two of the British marque’s derestricted 720S GT3X machines joined by a trio of Senna GTR models as well as the boundary-pushing P1 GTR. There will be two examples of the Porsche 935, which hints at the Stuttgart marque’s incredible track legacy while meeting its exacting modern standards. Italian engineering is also suitably well represented, with three Squadra Corse-developed Lamborghini SCV12 models running alongside the uncompromising Ferrari LaFerrari FXX-K and the awe-inspiring Pagani Zonda Revolución.
The Barcelona meeting will be publicised on the SRO Motorsports Group social media channels, including coverage of track activity at the Spanish circuit. Marking the launch of the new concept, it acts as a prologue to selected events across the 2022-2023 racing seasons. Each will be staged as part of an SRO weekend, beginning with warm-up on Sunday and followed by a full schedule on Monday. Participating drivers will also enjoy a VVIP package that includes an invitation to the accompanying race meeting.
In addition to further events in Europe, meetings in North America, Asia and the Middle East are also under consideration for 2022-2023. As it expands in the coming years, GT1 Sports Club Powered by Curbstone Events will maintain its focus on elite engineering combined with the spirit of enjoyment at world-renowned motorsport venues.
