The 2020 motorsports season is fast approaching its climax for the GRT Grasser Racing Team. In the ADAC GT Masters, the Austrian outfit has three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs in contention for both the team and the Junior titles. And in November, the IMSA team GRT Magnus will be going all out to defend its title in the legendary 12 Hours of Sebring as round of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the USA.

In parallel with the intense focus on bringing the year to a successful conclusion, detailed planning for the upcoming season is taking shape. In 2021, the GRT Grasser Racing Team intends to compete in the world’s three strongest GT3 series. No fewer than eight Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs will be battling for victories and titles in Europe and the USA. Driver recruitment is already at an advanced stage, and a full announcement of the line-ups will be made when the remaining cockpits have been filled.

In addition to GRT Grasser’s avowed commitments in three top-class GT3 series, the team is also considering entry in the DTM. A firm decision will only be made in this regard once the new GT3 regulations have been finalised.

GRT Grasser Racing Team and Lamborghini join forces in the ADAC GT Masters

The ADAC GT Masters has been a permanent fixture in the portfolio of the GRT Grasser Racing Team since 2011. With a tally of 10 victories and 14 pole positions as well as finishing runners-up in the driver and team classifications last year, the statistics of the Knittelfeld-based racing team speak for themselves. In the coming season, the Austrians and the sports car manufacturer from Emilia-Romagna will consolidate their collaboration in the Super Sports Car League, a series that will be further enhanced from 2021 by having the status of ‘International German GT Championship’ conferred on it by the DMSB.

There will be two GRT Grasser Racing teams fielding four Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs. In addition to the established contingent of works drivers from the Lamborghini Squadra Corse, recruitment will also take place from the Junior squad. The decision to go down this route was made on the basis of the excellent performance of the Lamborghini Juniors in this year’s ADAC GT Masters. The Italian constructor will send their promising youngsters into the fray in a team of their own over the seven race weekends of the campaign.

Return to the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup

After a one-year absence, GRT Grasser Racing will be returning to the GT3 European Championship in 2021. Between 2014 and 2019, the team scored a string of successes in the precursor Blancpain GT Series. In 2017, Grasser achieved the double, winning both the driver and team titles. Over the years, they have posted 13 victories, 16 pole positions and 36 podium finishes.

Next year, GRT Grasser Racing will enter two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. One driver pairing will start in the Pro category, targeting wins in the overall championship. The second car will be crewed by Lamborghini Juniors who will compete in the Silver Cup. The calendar for 2021 comprises five events, including the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

Challenging for the Endurance title in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

In addition to the major undertakings in Europe, the team led by Gottfried Grasser will also be back in action across the Atlantic. In the North American Endurance Cup of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs will fight for fame and glory in the biggest endurance races in the USA.

The GRT Grasser Racing Team can look back on a successful history in the United States, with two victories in the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona and a triumph in the equally famous 12 Hours of Sebring. In addition to these two endurance classics, the calendar for the 2021 season also features the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta and the Six Hours of Watkins Glen.

Team principal Gottfried Grasser: “I am very pleased that we are in a position to make plans for the 2021 season at such an early stage. After a tough year for the whole world – and this includes our industry – that is actually quite an achievement. Thanks to our strong partners and sponsors, we are able to set a course for the future, despite the difficulty of the times. We are optimistic about the coming year, and we very much hope that the global situation will improve so that we can look forward together to an attractive calendar and exciting races. Running the Lamborghini Junior team in the ADAC GT Masters will be a really cool enterprise and one that we are certainly going to enjoy very much. I am also particularly pleased about our return to the Endurance Cup in the GT World Challenge. We were part of it for so many years, and for us, the SRO Motorsports Group is like one big happy family. Anticipation of the coming season is running high, and we are looking forward to the future with great positivity.”
