Darren Turner set a rapid pace in second practice at the ‘Donington Decider’, as he put the #99 Beechdean Aston Martin over half-a-second clear of the rest of the British GT field at the top of the timing screens. Meanwhile, GT4 championship leader Jack Mitchell set the pace in class aboard his Century Motorsport BMW.

Turner improved the pace from the morning session, his 1m27.111s over six-tenths of a second faster than Marco Sorensen’s FP1-topping time. A rain shower a few minutes from the end of track action curtailed other drivers’ attempts at knocking Turner off top spot.

Nicki Thiim was second quickest for TF Sport whilst Jonny Cocker put the #69 Lamborghini third fastest overall. Fourth went to Yelmer Buurman with Phil Keen fifth in the #33 Barwell Motorsport machine. The #17 Aston Martin of Derek Johnston and Sorensen was sixth fastest as the top-eight was completed by Maxime Martin and the Nissan GT-R shared by Chris Buncombe and Struan Moore.

In GT4, Jack Mitchell continued his good start to the weekend by putting the #43 BMW top of class as the championship leader looks to secure the overall crown. The #62 Academy Motorsport car of Will Moore and Mat Nicoll-Jones was second quickest whilst the Equipe Verschuur McLaren of Finlay Hutchison and Daniel McKay finished third fastest.

Scott Malvern, fastest in FP1, put the #66 Team Parker Mercedes fourth ahead of the #55 HHC Motorsport Ginetta of Callum Pointon and Patrik Mattheisen. Adam Morgan was sixth fastest, Charlie Fagg and Michael O’Brien seventh quickest whilst the top-eight was rounded out by Ben Tuck and Ben Green in the #42 Century Motorsport BMW.

Qualifying to set the grid for Sunday’s championship finale ‘Donington Decider’ gets underway at 15:45 this morning.
