PASIN LATHOURAS READY TO END BLANCPAIN GT SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
Pasin Lathouras heads for the final round of Blancpain GT Endurance Cup 2017 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend targeting a podium finish in the 3-hour race to round out what’s been something of an up and down year on the strongest possible note.
As usual the 24-year-old Thai will race the #50 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3, joined in the cockpit by Italian drivers’ Michele Rugolo and Alessandro Pier Guidi.
This is Pasin’s second season in Blancpain GT Endurance Cup and his fourth racing in Europe. It’s been a bit of a mixed year so far. It started superbly at the opener in Monza, pole position and then the runners up spot in the race boded very well for the season and that was cemented by collecting more championship points thanks to a sixth place finish during the second round at Silverstone, a stronger than expected result due to the Ferrari’s BoP rating for that round preventing him from mixing it up with the front runners.
However, two tough races quickly followed, the #50 Ferrari was punted out of the Paul Ricard 1000 km when on course for a podium finish and then a huge incident for Pasin early in the 24 Hours of Spa, have evened matters out, so a strong finish in Barcelona would provide for an excellent way to round out the year.
This will in fact be Pasin’s second trip to the 4.652 km/16 turn Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the long-time home of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix. His debut there came at the tail end of the 2015 season during the final round of International GT Open and the Thai driver earned a trip to the podium after finishing in second place, a result that also allowed him to secure the series’ vice champions spot, so he certainly has fond memories of the track.
The action on track at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will start on Saturday (30 September) when Free Practice gets underway at 0900 (all time local, CET).. That opening session is 90 mins long and the first day is set to conclude with the Pre-Qualifying session at 1640 (90 mins). Sunday (1 October) kicks off with Qualifying at 0900 (split into three 20 minute sessions – Q1, Q2, Q3 – spread over 1 hour with all three drivers taking part) before Round 5 of Blancpain GT Endurance Cup 2017, the 3 Hours of Barcelona, goes to green lights at 1500. The race is scheduled to receive the chequered flag at 1800.
Pasin Lathouras: “I’m looking forward to getting back on track after the long summer break and it will be nice to return to Barcelona as I raced there a couple of years ago in International GT Open. After a pretty tough couple of races at Paul Ricard and Spa where we didn’t get the results we wanted we need to dig in and push for a result this weekend to end the season well. Clearly we have the pace, the team has done a great job all year as have Michele and Alessandro so now it’s time to get the season wrapped up with a good finish. พศิน จะยังคงร่วมงานกับคู่หูทีมเมทชาวอิตาเลียนอย่าง มิเคเล รูโกโล และ อเลสซานโดร ปิแอร์กูดี ภายใต้รถแข่งเฟอร์รารี่ 488 จีที3 หมายเลข 50 สังกัด เอเอฟ คอร์เซ
ปีนี้นับเป็นฤดูกาลที่ 2 ของ พศิน กับการแข่งขัน บลองค์แปง จีที เอ็นดูรานซ์ คัพ และนับเป็นปีที่ 4 ของนักขับไทยรายนี้กับการโลดแล่นในเวทีมอเตอร์สปอร์ตยุโรป โดยนับเป็นปีที่เต็มไปด้วยสถานการณ์หลากหลายสพหรับ พศิน หลังออกสตาร์ทฤดูกลที่ มอนซ่า ด้วยตำแหน่งโพลโพซิชั่น ก่อนคว้ารองแชมป์ในสนามแรก
หลังจากนั้นสามารถเก็บแต้มในสนามที่ 2 จากการคว้าอันดับ 6 ที่ ซิลเวอร์สโตน โดยนับเป็นผลการแจข่งขันที่ยอดเยี่ยมแม้ว่ารถแข่งเฟอร์รารี่ของเขาจะโดนกฎถ่วงดุลย์สมรรถนะ (Balance of Performance) ทำให้เสียเปรียบคู่แข่งก็ตาม
อย่างไรก็ดี 2 เรซ ที่ยากลำบากก็ผ่าเข้ามาอย่างรวดเร็ว รถแข่งเฟอร์รารี่หมายเลข 50 ถูกชนจนต้องออกจากการแข่งขัน และพลาดโพเดี้ยมอย่างน่าเสียดายในศึก พอล ริคาร์ด 1,000 กม. หลังจากนั้นพวกเขาก็ต้องออกจากการแข่งขันในศึก สปา 24 ชั่วโมง และแน่นอนว่าการแข่งขันสนามสุดท้ายที่ บาร์เซโลน่า จะเป็นอีกหนึ่งเรซที่นักขับไทยต้องพยายามสร้างผลงานให้ดีที่สุด ในการส่งท้ายฤดูกาล 2017
การเดินทางสู่ บาร์เซโลน่า ในปีนี้ถือเป็นครั้งที่ 2 ของ พศิน ที่จะได้ลงแข่งขันในสนามระดับตำนานอย่าง เซอร์กิต เดอ บาร์เซโลน่า ที่มีระยะทางต่อรอบ 4.652 กิโลเมตร 16 โค้ง และใช้รองรับการแข่งขันฟอร์มูล่าวันรายการ สแปนิช กรังด์ปรีซ์ มาอย่างยาวนาน
พศิน เปิดตัวในการแข่งขันที่ บาร์เซโลน่า ครั้งแรกในสนามสุดท้ายของศึก อินเตอร์เนชั่นแนล จีที โอเพ่น 2015 ด้วยการขึ้นโพเดี้ยมอย่างยิ่งใหญ่หลังจบการแข่งขันในอันดับ 2 และจากผลการแข่งขันดังกล่าวก็ทำให้ พศิน สามารถครองตำแหน่งรองแชมป์ในปีนั้นมาครองด้วย ซึ่งนับเป็นการบันทึกผลงานที่ยอดเยี่ยมในสนามแห่งนี้
ทั้งนี้ พศิน โลดแล่นเพื่อล่าความสำเร็จในศึกมอเตอร์สปอร์ตระดับโลกอย่าง บลองค์แปง จีที เอ็นดูรานซ์ คัพ 2017 ภายใต้การสนับสนุนของ นารายา, ลาลามา, นารา บาย นารายา, การท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย และ การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทย
สำหรับ การแข่งขันสนามสุดท้ายของ บลองค์แปง จีที เอ็นดูรานซ์ คัพ 2017 จะออกสตาร์ทการซ้อมครั้งแรกในวันเสาร์ที่ 30 กันยายนนี้ ก่อนจะลงแข่งรอบพรี-ควอลิฟายในช่วงเย็นของวันเดียวกัน จากนั้นจะแข่งขันรอบควอลิฟาย (Q1-Q2-Q3) ในเช้าวันอาทิตย์ที่ 1 ตุลาคมนี้เป็นเวลา 1 ชั่วโมง และ แข่งขันรอบชิงชนะเลิศ เป็นเวลา 3 ชั่วโมงเต็ม โดยจะออกสตาร์ทในเวลา 15.00 น. และไปจบเรซในเวลา 18.00 น.ตามเวลาท้องถิ่น
พศิน เปิดเผยว่า “ผมเฝ้ามองไปที่การกลับมาลงแข่งขันอีกครั้ง หลังจากที่ใช้เวลาส่วนใหญ่กับช่วงซัมเมอร์เบรกที่ยาวนาน และมันยอดเยี่ยมมากที่ได้กลับมาแข่งขันที่ บาร์เซโลน่า ซึ่งผมเคยลงแข่งขันเมื่อ 2 ปีที่แล้วในรายการ อินเตอร์เนชั่นแนล จีที โอเพ่น หลังจากที่ผ่านการแข่งขันที่ยากลำบากใน พอล ริคาร์ด และ สปา-ฟรังก์คอร์ฌองส์ เราทำผลงานไม่ได้ตามเป้าที่ต้องการ และแน่นอนว่าเราต้องทำงานหนักเพื่อกลับสู่ฟอร์มที่ยอดเยี่ยมให้ได้อีกครั้ง”
