Full details regarding the new Audi Sport Asia Trophy can now be announced with the release of the full regulations for the season-long contest. Audi privateers contesting Asia’s leading championships and iconic stand-alone races will earn points towards the new Audi Sport Asia Trophy. Drivers of all Audi Sport customer racing machinery will compete for the first-ever trophy of its type in the region, with the best performers receiving cash prizes and the top three Audi R8 LMS GT3 drivers also earning a fully-supported seat in the 2021 Suzuka 10 Hours.
“The Audi Sport Asia Trophy will reward Audi privateers across the region. These drivers are the backbone of our customer racing platform,” said Martin Kuehl, Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia. “For the first time, all Audi customers competing in different machinery across varied series and races in Asia will be brought together in one competition, all gunning for the trophy while at the same time receiving industry-leading parts and technical support across the region.”
All FIA bronze-rated or privateer-classified drivers competing in an Audi R8 LMS GT2, GT3, GT4 or Audi RS 3 LMS and contesting any of the eligible series or races are automatically entered into the Audi Sport Asia Trophy. No registration is required, and drivers or their teams only need submit their results. All eligible races from November 18, 2019 to November 22, 2020 will count towards the trophy.
At present for the 2020 season, 12 series and three stand-alone races are eligible under trophy regulations. Points are allocated to every Audi customer entry that finishes the race based on their final overall position or their final position in each qualifying class, whichever is greater. Points are awarded from 15 points for a win to one point for 11th place or lower.
Each eligible series and race has been allocated a set of coefficients, or multiples, based on the relative levels of competition and also the racing machinery used. Points earned through finishing positions will then be multiplied by the corresponding coefficient for each series or race. For example, an overall GT3 victory in the GT World Challenge Asia would earn the driver 15 points for the win multiplied by 66, the series’ allocated coefficient. For the 2020 Suzuka 10 Hours, an endurance race with an international field of the world’s leading professional drivers and manufacturers, the coefficient for an overall GT3 victory is 144, while it is 108 for a Pro-Am win and 72 for an Am-Am entry.
In the case of privateers sharing a car, such as in an Am-Am class, all drivers receive full points per the finishing position of the car. For Pro-Am pairings, the Am driver will receive trophy points for the car’s finishing position.
In addition, privateers who win a title or class title in a series with a minimum of three races earn a championship bonus equivalent to a race victory in their respective class.
The winner of the Audi Sport Asia Trophy wins both the trophy and title as well as Euro 50,000, with the runner-up earning Euro 35,000 and third-place in the standings, Euro 15,000. In addition, the top three finishing drivers who have completed a full season in a full-spec GT3 car up to and including the 2020 season, will form a team at the 2021 Suzuka 10 Hours, fully funded by Audi Sport customer racing Asia.
