After claiming the Ginetta GT Academy Rookie championship title in 2021, Angus Whiteside is set for a new challenge as he joins Toro Verde GT in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this year.

Starting in karts, Angus performed well, including securing a win at Norfolk’s Ellough Park in the snow, before joining Ginetta’s entry-level GT Academy series as a novice racer, following in a lifelong goal of competing in motorsport.

The 25-year-old had a remarkable season in the Rookie class finishing second on his debut, before claiming 12 wins en route to the title, only missing the top step with two DNFs in races he started from pole position.

Ready for the next stage of his journey, Angus will tackle the Porsche Carrera Cup GB as it begins a new era with the 992-style 911 GT3 Cup being introduced to the United Kingdom for the first time. With increased power and higher levels of downforce, lap records are expected to fall during the season.

As well as new machinery this year, Angus will sport a new look race helmet thanks to Tyler at Helmart Design, with a nod to the West Sussex native’s day-to-day work in the aviation industry, while Tyler also designed his Porsche livery for the campaign.

“I won the Rookie championship in Ginetta GTA last year and it was either between Carrera Cup or Ginetta this year, and Porsche offers multiple products, so that’s why we made this choice. It’s the biggest and fastest single-make championship in the UK, so if you’re going to make a name for yourself it’s probably the place to do it.

“I haven’t got any bad habits as its only my second year of car racing, so I am still forming my style, but initially it feels like a bit of a tank! It sings, it’s an absolute riot to drive, and I am slowly getting used to it. I am excited for the first race, though a bit nervous too! Every time I walk into the garage, I can’t believe I am doing this. The team are really cool, it’s not a chore, and while you have to be serious because you want to win, you are here because you want to have fun while you’re doing it.
