AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports joins the rest of the 2018 IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship in Ontario, Canada this weekend for the seventh round of the season being held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Watkins Glen proved the potential of the #52 Liger JS P217, but AFS/PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports’ result from the six-hour race was not what was predicted due to contact with a GT car that lost control. Even with a major reduction in power, the team finished and is currently 9th in the Championship point’s standings. Like Watkins Glen, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park should be another strong track for the #52 Liger JS P217. This may be Sebastian Saavedra’s first time running the 2.5-mile track in a prototype car, but he has plenty of support from teammate, Gustavo Yacaman who won pole and the race fours year ago.
Friday, July 6th, will hold two practice sessions for the 34 entries among the three WeatherTech Championship classes. One more practice will take place on Saturday before the 14 entries of the prototype category battle out their grid positions in qualifying that will go from 1-1:15 p.m. EDT. An hour warm-up will begin at 9:50 a.m. on race day and the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix will go green at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 8th. I don’t really remember much about it but I know that its compatible with the development we’ve been doing throughout the year with our Ligier chassis.
